The Decembers

Chapter 21

                                                                                            -West-

    We were here in the Night Kingdom castle. Iris was leading us to their meeting room. She said that's where Nora will be welcoming us. Looking around this place, I can see a huge difference between here and Bright Kingdom. There was barely any color here. Everything was black and grey. The artwork here seems scary more than anything. This place looked like a haunted palace.

   "Here we are, please step on in and have a seat."

     Iris was being very welcoming. It was kind of strange really. She went from trying to boss us to pleasing us. Nora probably told Iris to be very extra kind to us. It didn't matter how kind they treat us. As soon as we find out the truth, were leaving this place.

    We enter the room and there was a giant round table in the middle of the room with chairs around it. Avery, Paisley, and I all sat next to each other. Iris sat across from us. It was quiet, and Nora was not here yet. I find it rude that she thinks she can make us wait, especially with what we just went through in that forest.

    Iris smiles at Avery, and you can tell that she is about to start a conversation with her. "Sorry about the whole knocking you out with the door."

    "It's fine. I'm just sorry I couldn't do the same to you."

    "Your still young. You have a lot to learn anyway. After all we can't all be that great."

     You can tell that Iris upset Avery when she said that. I did not like the way she was talking to Avery. I was not going to let her speak to her like that. So, I knew exactly what to say to Iris. "Don't worry, she's learning from the best. You remember Storm, right?"

    Avery and Paisley giggle a little when I said that. Iris looks at me and was leaning towards me. As if she were about to do something. That is until Nora walks in the room. "Hello, my darlings, anybody care for a cup of tea."

    Usually, I do not accept things from people I dislike but when you just came from a death situation, anything sounds good to you. After all I have not had anything to drink or eat since we last rested. I can tell Paisley and Avery wanted some tea as well. Just Nora mentioning it made my mouth thirsting for it.

    Nora sits down next to Iris. She then tells her maid to get us some slices of warm corn bread with a cup of tea. The maid leaves us alone, once Nora told her what to get. Soon as she left, Nora crossed her hands and looked at all three of us. I think she was curious to know why we chose Bright Kingdom over hers.

    "The guards told me the three of you took the creature forest path. I'm sorry if any of you felt like you were in danger, but it was a good thing that Iris was there to save the three of you."

    Nora looks at Iris and gave her a nod of appreciation. In the end, we would not have been put in that situation if it wasn't for Nora giving us only 24 hours. I don't understand how she is a ruler to this kingdom. You can tell she is a very selfish person, and no ruler should be selfish when it comes to their people. I wonder how she was even chosen.

    "West, you are looking at me like you have something on your mind. Go ahead and say what you are thinking?"

    She was right I did have a question to ask her. "How did you become Night Kingdom Ruler?"

    "It's simple really. The throne was passed down to me. In Night Kingdom we do not vote for our next ruler. The ruler goes to the oldest child and well I was first born; therefore, I am Night Kingdom rightful ruler. Pierce on the other hand was voted to become Bright Kingdom next ruler by the people. We have different rules when it comes to both kingdoms."

    "That makes sense."

    The maid comes in with the cups of tea and the fresh corn bread. Both smelled good. She places it on the table. None of us reach for the drink or bread. Even though we all really wanted it. I think it was more who was going to be the first to grab any of it. Surprisingly, it was Avery who grabbed her cup of tea and slice of bread first. Soon after, Paisley and I did the same. Nora just smiles, she is probably please with herself making us feel like she's feeding a bunch of hungry dogs.

    "You must be the twin's protector. I think its sweet that Bright Kingdom still does the whole protector thing."

     "The name is Avery and yes Bright Kingdom still provided protectors. That's because we care about the twins in our kingdom."

    "We here in Night Kingdom care about our twins as well."

     The conversation between Avery and Nora got interrupted by Iris. "Those are both lies. If both Kingdoms cared so much about the twins, they wouldn't have us kill each other for power."

    For once I agreed with Iris. She was right, neither of the kingdoms cared. In the end of it all, they just want power from the sun and moon. I mean what does this power even do. Give everyone more strength. The room got quite when Iris said that. Nora looks at her with an upset look. It seems like Iris was going to get in some trouble with her later.

    I spoke up. I was tired of this quietness. "We came here for the truth. Tell us about our parents and their death."

   "You are both right. Well let me start off with why your parents were killed. Not only they were killed because they tried to hide you both from your true destiny, but they were both already on treason. They let a fugitive go when they were protectors of the kingdoms, but we learn your mother was carrying twins, so I made a deal with them. I was going to let them live if they give me the both of you under my control."

    Paisley and I look at each other surprise. Of course, Nora would make that deal with them. If she had the both of us under her control, we would have both been easily moon twins. Therefore, she would have more advantage for the Night Kingdom. Our parents probably only took that deal, so they can live long enough until they can send us off when the time was right. Nora would have let our mom live any way because she was carrying us.

    Paisley asks Nora how they were killed. She leans forward towards us. "That's easy I had the Night guards go after them. Your father was killed by a night guard and as for your mother, it was me who killed her."

    My sister and I both got up from our seats ready to attack Nora. I have never felt so much anger build up in me. I felt my blood boiling. How dare she brings us over here to tell us that she is the reason for our parents' death. I bet she just wanted to see our faces of how we would react. Avery was trying to hold us both back. I look over at Iris and even she looked surprise with the news. I was suddenly feeling a little dizzy.

    I was not the only one who was feeling dizzy. Avery and Paisley as well were feeling it to. Nora must have put something in our drinks. My legs were now starting to feel a little shaky. Even my whole eye vision was getting blurry. "What did you put it our drink."

    "Just a little bit of this and a little bit of that."

    Paisley gave her an angry look. "Answer my brother question. What did you do to us?"

   "Relax! I simply added some sleeping herbs to your tea. You all will be staying here long term now."

    Paisley was the first to passed out on the floor, next was Avery. I was still standing, trying to keep my eyes open but the herbs were kicking in strong. "You trick us." With that said I felt my legs shaking and fell to the ground and just like that, everything had turn black.
