The Decembers

Chapter 15

    My sister and I were going to find out the gifts that we will receive on our later birthdays. You can tell Cyrus was excited to tell us all about them. I mean just having a protector alone is amazing. I couldn't wait to hear everything about them. Our birthdays must be very special to both kingdoms. All because we are twins.

    "Let's start off with your 13 birthday. As you already know, for your 13 birthday you receive your own protector. The moon twins don't believe in having a protector, but we do. The reason for that is because no set of twins should die before they enter the doom pit. If a twin die, then both kingdoms see that as a waste of power gone. That is why Bright Kingdom prefers for each sun twin to have their personal protector."

    It made sense to why the Bright Kingdom wanted the sun twins to have a protector. I mean anything can happen to us. Especially knowing that we represent the sun. I'm just still surprise that the moon twins don't have one but that's their problem. They really should rethink about getting a protector.

    "Now let's move on to your 14 birthday. On your 14 birthday, you both will receive a weapon. Just like the other set of twins, both of you will receive a weapon chosen by the moon and sun. You both will have the same weapon, but it will just look different from each other's. For example, Iris and I both have whips, but they don't look the same."

    Knowing that next year for our birthday, we will be receiving a weapon as a gift is so cool but at the same time weird because were still young. Whatever weapon my sister and I get; we will be able to train with each other. Watching Mary and Jace with their weapons were so cool to watch. Mary had her cross bow while Jace had his Axe mace. Every set of twin has different weapons from each other, I wonder what Paisley and my weapon will be.

    The man that owns the bakery came up to our table. "How may I be your service today". Cyrus introduces us to the man.

    "Decembers, I want you to meet the best baker here in Bright Kingdom. This is Mr. White. We'll have your 3 famous chocolate deep fried donuts."

    "3 Chocolate deep fried donuts coming right up."

    Mr. White was a short chubby old man that has a long grey beard. He kind of reminds me of Santa clause, because of the way he looks. All I know is I could not wait to try his deep-fried chocolate donut. His whole bakery smelled so good. I can tell already by the smell and how many people were here that his sweets are delicious and famous.

    "Trust me, you guys are going to love his fried chocolate donut. I've been coming here since I was little, Iris and I were crazy about his desserts."

    When Cyrus brought up Iris about them being little, he had a huge smile on his face but soon faded away. He was remembering him and his sister when they were little. He changes the conversation about Iris and move on to talk about our birthday. "Let us talk about your guys 15 birthday. On your 15 birthday you both will receive a pet. You both already met my eagle, and I am sure you met some of the other twins' pets as well."

    Paisley was telling Cyrus how we met Cheese and Hopper. She even brought up Iris crow and how she dislikes her pet. He just laughed and said you and I both. "The reason for a pet is because they are our companion. I guess you can say a pet takes over as your best friend once you and your twin get separated." He moves on and continues to talk about the other gifts. "Moving on to your 16-birthday gift, now this is my favorite one. You get a somewhat special power."

    I interrupted Cyrus. To mention Mary and Jace powers. "Just like Mary enhanced hearing and Jace future telling."

    "Exactly West." Paisley then asks Cyrus what was his and Iris power.

    "I can make people see their greatest strengths and dreams. As for Iris she can make people see their greatest fears. There not actually there when we show you them. I guess you can say Iris and my gift trick minds into believing there seeing something that's actually not there." Okay now I was more curious to know what he had meant about his gift tricking the mind.

    "I want to see you use your power on me Cyrus."

    "I don't know West; I don't like using my power that much. Only when there is need for it."

    "Please."

    "Alright, only this once."

    Cyrus looks around him to make sure no one was looking at us. He looks directly at me. Suddenly I felt like I was dizzy for a moment. Then I saw her standing right behind Cyrus smiling at me. I saw my mom that adopted me and Paisley. I could not believe it. She looks so real. I started tearing up and Paisley ask me what was wrong. I told her that I was looking at mom. She couldn't believe what I was saying. Cyrus lets go of his contact with me. My mom disappears soon as he let go.

    "Cyrus your gift is amazing. I wish I had something like your power."

    He just smiles at me. You can also tell Paisley wanted to ask Cyrus to try his power on her, but she didn't. I think she was too nervous to ask. Mr. White came by our table again to drop off the fried donuts. They look so good. Each one of us had our own plate and was excited to eat them. Paisley and I took a bite and were amazed with how good it was. Best donut I have ever ate in my life. The inside was fluffy and there was warm chocolate syrup coming out of it. We gave Mr. White some complements about his bakery and thank Cyrus for bringing us here. Mr. White left our table to let us finish our donuts. I was the first one to finish mine. "Wow, you're a fast eater."

    "I get told that a lot." Cyrus laughs when I said that. Paisley just looks at me and roll her eyes while smiling. I waited till Cyrus was done eating so that way he can tell us about our 17 and 18 birthdays. Truthfully, I didn't want to know anything about our 18 birthday. I already knew what he was going to say about it.

    "Alright, now that I'm done eating let me tell you about your 17 birthday. You both will receive your armor. Now were still going to have you guys wear armor but these armors are not just like any armor suit. These are stronger. I guess you can say they have better shield protection. Once you get it, you will have the shape of the sun carve on to the chest of the armor. This is the only thing that is the same as the other sun twins. As you already probably know the moon twins' armor has the moon shape on theirs as well."

    I started looking at Cyrus armor and to know that he has one of the strongest armors in the kingdom must make you feel special. To also know that I will soon get that same armor that he has made me smile. What kind of boy didn't want to wear armor? I used to play with the boys in our foster homes pretending to be knights growing up. Now I'm going to be one. Well at least something close to it.

    "Last but not least. Your 18 birthday, Because you were both late for your 13 ritual, you get another one for your 18 to see who you will represent, but like Pierce said if you fight the darkness away, you both can be sun twins. Now I am not saying it's going to be easy but if any of you feel like something is taking over you, please let me know. Do you both understand me."

    Paisley and I look at each other and nod our heads. "Yes, we understand you." With that said we ended our birthdays conversation there and headed back to our place.
