"WHAT." Jacob shouted angrily at the thought of his youngest children in danger. I looked up quickly in shock before looking at Jake, who was already looking at me, and I could see the fear in his eyes.
"I'm sorry. The dove that's in the box was ours with a message that was supposed to be sent to Mary. Obviously, Nicholas killed the dove, and now they don't know what's happening." Frédéric said with a sad expression. My hands tightened around Jake's neck, who pulled me tighter against him.
"So what do we do." Jake demanded before pulling away from me slightly as Rosanna pulled me into her arms as Jake stood up and crossed his arms.
"We need to let them know." Xavier spoke before walking away from us and down the stairs. I looked across as Jacob fell back into the seat with his hands going through his hair.
"Have you got any more doves." Melody asked desperately as she wrapped her arms around Jacob, who pulled her against him.
Jake was staring at the floor as I stood up from Rosanna and walked over to him. My arms wrapped around Jake's waist, who moved his arms to hold me against him.
"One more." The captain said as Xavier jogged back over to us with some paper and a pen. Everyone around us moved closer to see what Xavier was doing on the barrel.
"The baby." Frédéric said loudly, which made our heads go up. A baby couldn't travel that far. I closed my eyes and pressed my head back against Jake's chest, who started to rub his hands up and down my back.
"It's the only chance we've got." The captain said before ordering a member of his crew to grab the baby dove.
"I suppose we take it, and hopefully, it gets to them before we do. God's sake, I hope so because of the children." Rosanna said from behind us. I looked up from Jake's chest to see everyone whispering to themselves.
"They're strong children. I know they'll do fine." I whispered to Jake, who looked down at me and gave me a small smile before leaning forward to kiss my forehead.
"Aurora. You write the message. They'll know your writing." Frédéric said as Xavier looked up at me. I nodded before pulling away from Jake, who followed me as I took Xavier's place by the barrel.
For the first time in a while I felt my hands shaking but I managed to pull through as I felt Jake reach to hold my left hand which calmed me down and after a few minutes I finished writing it.
"Is this okay." I asked and past it to Xavier, who read through it quickly before nodding and gave me a gentle smile.
"It's enough. Don't worry." Xavier said to both Jake and I as I leaned back against Jake's chest, who has hardly spoken, but then I don't blame him because it's his youngest siblings.
"Ready." Frédéric asked Xavier, who nodded and walked towards the edge of the ship. Jake pulled me with him as we walked behind them and watched intently at how they tied the note to the doves claw.
With one final look between the two friends Frédéric threw his arms up and let go of the dove. The dove flapped his wings hard, but thankfully, it managed to gain control and started to glide with the wind and get higher into the sky.
"Go on, buddy." I whispered before stepping away from Jake and walking towards the edge where some others went to watch until the dove disappeared completely.
"Go to my children." Jacob whispered next to me. I smiled softly before putting my hand on his shoulder as Jake went onto my other side and wrapped his arm around me and Melody.
The shock of what just happened hasn't fully settled in as we all go back to what we were doing. After kissing Jake, I walked over to Rosanna and Vanessa, who were leaning against the barrel and were whispering to each other.
