-Lucas Wykes!" Loudly called out the woman in the center of the small arena at the back of the adventurer guild's building.

-Yes!" Loudly answered the boy as he shot straight up with sweat pouring down his face.

-Please make your way to the examination ground." Explained the mage as the obviously tense boy made his way to the staircase on the side of the circular stand with elevated sites of benches we were sitting on.

Seeing the stressed-out boy profusely apologize to anyone in his path still made me feel weirded out as I had not come to terms with his new personality.

Seeing him act in a manner that was so contrary to everything he once embodied, in a way he'd despised and couldn't stop but to look down on, just had a surreal feeling.

It was like I was having a hallucination as I saw him bow down in apology to some random adventurer before begging them to let him through. This was just an impossible thing to picture.

-Conjurer, single specialization in fire magic with a light orange core." Explained the woman while reading from the paper with a surprised tone as the small crowd started gossiping amongst themselves.

-Seems like you aren't the only little genius." Teased Adam as I caught a glimpse of him hitting Notes' shoulder.

-Shut it Adam." Snapped Helen in a low but harsh tone while bashing his head with her elbow, making him yelp in pain.

Grumbling to himself, the adventurer stopped himself from making any further comments, visibly understanding that hiding Notes real identity took priority over his games.

-The match will start at my signal." Loudly explained a man wearing knight armor standing at the back of the arena whom I assumed was the other guild judge before starting a countdown.

Feeling tension grew as the countdown got closer to zero, I leaned a bit forward, intrigued to know what this Lucas would do compared to the one I knew. Taking a quick glimpse around I knew that I wasn't the only one intrigued as both the Twin horns and the other adventurer stopped their chatter to focus on the match.

-0!" Shouted the man as Lucas shook in fear before raising his staff up in the air as a whirlwind of fire started to spiral around him.

-F-flame guardian I invoke you!" He shouted in a trembling voice as the fire expanded and took the shape of a large humanoid figure made of fire with a noticeably heavier look then what I remembered.

From what I had seen during the team fighting mechanics class in Xyrus, his guardian was sharper, taller, more ferocious like it was about to jump at the enemy. This one on the other hand seemed chubbier, more like an actual protector then an offensive tool.

From the way it stood, and stayed close to Lucas as a shield, the guardian reminded me a bit of Durden.

-Impressive." Let out the woman before thrusting her staff forward and shouting: "But not enough."

Seeing earth mana condense around her staff I was almost certain she would create a coffin of stone around the guardian to suffocate the flame.

Visibly also seeing the attack coming, Lucas instructed its guardian to move aside while he stayed hidden behind it and, with a trembling hand, started to conjure another spell.

Seeing his guardian dodge the attack, Lucas' face turned to relief as he casted his other spell: "Flame shield!" he shouted as a bubble of fire appeared around the boy, protecting him further.

Raising an eyebrow in confusion, I wasn't sure what the boy's plan was. Although casting a defensive magic early on was essential for a conjurer since they were defenseless when fighting up close, the guardian was already filling this role. The smart choice would have been to cast an offensive spell while his opponent was distracted by the one they had just cast.
