Rushing through the streets of Grnor under the heavy rain we had gotten into after using a series of teleportation gates from the Wykes mansion to the nearest Unity base to put Adam under their protection for now, then to Etistin which was the only city in Sapin to have a direct portal to Vildorial, from which we teleported to Grnor, leaving us with about 5 kilometers to run by foot before reaching the long cliff castle located at the foot of the Grand mountains.
Although we had thought about setting up an ambush at those very teleportation gate to kidnap Lucas from his kidnappers, we had concluded that doing so wasn't exactly the best idea since it could lead to a fight in the open street, potentially against Bairon while completely disregarding Lucas' will, which would be rather ironic since Lucas' will is what we are trying to protect in the first place.
Plus, it would require us to know for sure which convoy owned by the Wykes, in which carriage Lucas is in and that the castle they are in doesn't have its own teleportation gate, which we simply couldn't know. In addition, laying under the rain for a couple more hours wasn't exactly on my wish list for today.
Continuing forward, we quickly got out of the rather wide streets of the small city, even if city was rather generous considering that it was closer to a couple main avenue with heavy stone bridges, the rest being a maze of dozens of suspension bridges linking one side of a cliff to another with some narrow stretch of pavement in between built against the stone wall or dug through those.
It was far closer to a military camp which had outgrown its primary use and now happened to have so many civilians living nearby that the people, including the soldiers themselves, forgot it was supposed to be a military installation.
The reason we hadn't just used my powers to get up to the surface straight away and rushed from there, it was partially because we didn't want to take the risk of getting caught by the local soldiers who might be working with the Wykes, but also not to get lost as none of us knew the way, meaning we had to rely on the signs on the road to locate our destination.
This later action was made even harder because of the heavy rain, which made it atrociously difficult to see anything more than a couple meters away, leaving us without any other choice than running along the intended path.
Stopping at our first real intersection, all three of us basically threw ourselves at the sign, which from its shape and designed seemed to be a gross knockoff of the ones made by Unity, but thankfully still indicated direction properly.
Getting ready to leap to my left, I got startled after realizing that Arthur was right in the way, and, although leaping onto him for a hug would be something I'd be quite interested in normally, it wasn't exactly the right time to do so.
"To the left." Ordered the blond boy as he immediately followed along with his own command as I was left wondering how I would still feel so attracted to him despite the fact that his body was covered in an illusion making him look like a bit older than he actually was with pale, blond hair, a rounder face and pupils that were a gradient between brown at the top and yellow at the bottom, all while his voice was completely different.
Seeing Hanna dash past me, I snapped back to reality and caught up to them as we finally made our way out of the underground section of Grnor.
Taking a quick glance around myself as we emerge from the low-angle slop that had been dug in the cliff, we might as well have been thrown in the wilderness as, beyond the dirt road stretching on for seemingly forever, there was absolutely nothing, apart from the towering Grand mountain range that covered the horizon and which seemingly worked as a barrier to keep the rain clouds above our heads. Every other side lead to a desert scenery stretching pas the horizon without a single building, structure, tree or even large boulder above ground.
