Keeping up the firewall Hanna had told me to cast, I struggled to maintain my spell while avoiding and protecting myself from the projectiles Uto kept throwing my way.

The small bits of metal grazed past me, constantly threatening to pierce my body but only leaving small wounds. Even if part of me wanted to believe that my mana barrier and skills were the ones pushing the projectiles away, I felt like my opponent was intentionally missing his shots while mocking me.

Trying to stay focused on just holding on for now, I tried to stay positive and noted that I hadn't been pushed back much as of now.

Seeing what I believed to be a large chunk of metal pierce through my fire wall, I stepped to the side just enough to avoid it, maintaining most of my attention on the spell, only to realize that what had entered wasn't metal, but a hand already swiping widely toward me with its long nails.

Having understood that I was about to get hit, I both tried to dodge and shot a fireball at the hand, but neither did much as the long claws reached my side and created long and deep gashes along the upper part of my stomach, breaking a few of the lower ribs in the process.

Letting out a sharp cry, I could only curse my situation and lack of power, having felt just how strong Uto was. He could easily slice my entire body in half with a single strike if he wanted to. The only reason why I was still alive was because he was toying with me.

Applying fire to my wounds with one hand, I strangely did not feel that much pain despite actively bleeding out and using fire to burn myself, I however, felt that my breathing was noticeably heavier, my legs far more shaky, and my vision starting to wane.

"I hadn't lost that much blood and still had enough mana left." I told myself, trying to stay rational, having stopped the bleeding. "I have to hold on until Hanna comes back." I repeated to myself, placing all of my hope in her, deeply believing her plan, whatever it may be, could save us from that Vritra maniac.

I didn't exactly keep track of how much time was passing by while I fought back against the spikes being thrown my way, Uto's hand trying to lacerate my side, and my dwindling mana reserves; all that I knew was that I HAD to hold on.

Then, at some point, I spotted a glimpse of Hanna up in the air. The dwarf girl was holding onto her long two-handed sword with a furious expression, her long brown hair flowing behind her in the air, giving her a magnificent, almost angel-like aura as she prepared to swing her weapon down and save me.

At that moment she was the only thing I could see. I was completely mesmerized by her sight. I love her so much.
That's why, when Uto turned around and extended his arm to grab onto Hanna's weapon, I felt utter despair. But then, as our opponent mocked her, as the sword fell down and landed into the greyish hand, only to slide off and cut the tip of the Retainer's horn.

The sword fell and got stuck in the ground as I felt like all three of us froze in place for a second until Uto, who sounded utterly outraged, pulled his scythe out of his dimensional storage and, in a single move, cut off one of Hanna's arms before hitting her with his knee, sending her flying off until she crashed into a wall at the opposite end of the plaza.

I stayed in place, utterly terrorized; I felt like my heart had stopped. Hanna, my love, my wife, had lost an arm and was now coughing blood while lying on the ground, her face showing utter agony as tears ran down her face.

Seeing her injured, I felt far worse than any wounds or injury I had sustained.

I felt utterly crushed, unable to move, finding it hard to breathe or think about anything beyond her. I had to help her; I had to, somehow.
