Extinguished and set ablaze

Running toward the entrance of the Xyrus academy with everything I had, sliding past groups of students, jumping over flower pots, bushes and benches, through the long hallway of the buildings in my way, my thoughts were running just as fast as I tried to navigate the set of absurd circumstances we had ended up in all of it while it started to rain, because obviously, it had to start raining right now.

None of it made any sense, why would Draneeve and the Alacryans go through the effort of kidnapping Lucas, just to release him 3 days later? Did they do something to him? Did they replace him with someone else? Why Lucas specifically? Was it because of the wedding proposal his father was forcing onto him? Was it because of his relation with Hannadreda? Was it because they knew that he knew my identity as Unity? Was it because he is easy to manipulate? Or because of who he was in my previous life? Or maybe a combination of all the factors above?

I didn't know. I couldn't be sure of anything.

It could all be some kind of enormous distraction aimed at making it harder for me to notice their real plan. But then, why use such a risky plan that almost got Draneeve killed if it was just a distraction?

I didn't even know if I was the target, or if Lucas was what they were after in the first place, actually, I wasn't even sure if Draneeve knew that I was Unity. Maybe he just took the job from Lucas' father thinking it would be an essay way to get rich and stumbled onto me by complete accident. In which case, the one sending Lucas back here was that prick of a nobleman he has as a father and not the Alacryans, which still made me wonder why he would do so.

Unless he thought he had some kind of leverage against Lucas, which he didn't since Hanna was alive and, as Lucas was very well aware of, under my protection, meaning nothing could happen to her, I really didn't understand what his plan might be.

The issue with the current situation was the sheer amount of moving parts, variables and the different levels of knowledge each party might, or might not have since, for all I knew, the Alacryans had told every noble aligned with them that I was Unity. Assuming that Draneeve had access to that information in the first place.

I didn't know what to take in account and what to dismiss. Was it a large plan? A series of improvised actions? Pure coincidences? Was Bairon involved? Had he sided with the Alacryans? Did he even know they existed? Was Hannadreda a legitimate target, or just in the wrong place at the wrong time? Actually, why in the word had this girl, who had most likely died as a slave in my past life, fallen in love with the 1 guy whose personality did a complete 180° compared to said past life, and why had he reciprocated, and how had they managed to get so close so quickly while I still hadn't managed to get anywhere with Arthur??

Realizing I was about to go down yet another tangent, I focused on the task at hand as I finally reached the large auditorium which towered over the entrance. All I need to do is to find Lucas, locate who the people that came with him are and if they are here to support or monitor him and then hopefully get him to answer some of my questions.

Deciding to go around the large building as I wasn't sure if the auditorium was actively in use or if the door were even open, I passed through the already wet small garden on the left, ignoring the pillars and other sculptures that had were spread around that area to get to the main road leading to the entrance gates as the few drops of water that had been falling when I left had swiftly turned into a continued trickled of water.

After narrowly evading collisions with a few flower bushes while trying not to slip on the wet grass, I set foot on the main access in and out of the academy which looked totally deserted as of now, and immediately spotted the open great gates at the foot of which a guard seemed to be angrily arguing with a woman in formal attire wearing a magic wand around her waist.
