Hello to all my lovely readers! I hope you are enjoying the story.
Sirius patted the spot on the bed beside him "come on I won't bite." He chuckled before adding "I might lick though."
Was that a dog reference or something else?
Harriet gingerly took a seat beside her godfather, unnaturally aware of the small space between them.
He slipped an arm around her waist and Harriet momentarily forgot why she was here.
"You had a very important question for me that you wanted to ask me in private?" Sirius prodded.
His fingers traced the curve of her waist.
Well, it was only harmless flirting after all. No harm in engaging.
Harriet leaned into his touch.
"Mmmhmmm."
"The question?" He reminded her.
"Um. Yes. So about my Dad, during occlumency I saw one of Snape's memories. My Dad - he, he was attacking Snape unprovoked. Was he like that? Why would he do that?"
"You should know. Aren't you and that Malfoy brat mortal enemies?"
Harriet opened her mouth, then closed it.
Harriet thought back to how Malfoy had brought her to completion with just his hands while she screamed his name.
"I'm pretty sure it's different."
"Yeah well Snape ran around with a group of other students who were big fans of dark magic. It was everything that James was against. I mean it was that and the competition factor of course. They both had a raging crush on Lily."
"Snape what?" Harriet's voice came out sharper than she had intended.
Her hearing was clearly faulty. Perhaps the wind was still rushing in her ears. Hermione would have a charm for it.
Sirius laughed, "can't blame him really, half of our year did. She was a knockout like you. But the thing was, Snape and your Mum were really good friends at some point before she started dating James."
Harriet was stunned "but then why did my Mum agree to marry my dad? She hated him."
"Once James matured a bit he managed to win her over."
"So he didn't propose to my mum with a wand to Snape's throat?"
Sirius gave a huge belly laugh.
Harriet did not.
"Oh come on Harriet, I never thought you were a fan of Snape's. I thought he picks on you in class."
"Well yes. But it's not about that. I just don't support bullying."
"Sounds rather like what he does to you."
"Well I -" Harriet groaned, laying her head against Sirius' shoulder. This conversation was getting way too complicated.
Things were so much easier before she had seen the memory. Back when Snape had been unquestionably evil and her dad had been a hero.
Back when Sirius had just been a father figure.
"Why are things getting so complicated?" She asked aloud.
His answer was soft as his fingers traced higher up her waist.
"You are growing up."
"I wish I never had to grow up" Harriet grumbled.
His tone now curved unexpectedly "Trust me, speaking from experience, there are certain advantages that make it worth it."
"Oh?"
His hand continued its slow path up her side, pausing momentarily at the side of her breast.
His rough edged fingernails grazed the side of her neck. Merlin why did that feel so good?
When Harriet spoke her words blurred together "I think I'm starting to see what you mean."
His hand entangled in the roots of her long hair and the gentle force of her hair being pulled was unexpectedly tantalising.
His rough thumb brushed her plump bottom lip and her eyes drifted shut.
His stubble grazed her cheek as he leaned in to whisper directly into her ear, sending a shiver down her spine.
She waited for his next words with bated breath.
"Let's go down for lunch."
When they entered the dining room, it was filled with noise as people bustled about in every direction. It appeared that even though this was Sirius' house, Molly had commandeered the kitchen. Some things would never change.
She looked for him instinctively, but knew she wouldn't find him.
