It was later in the day when I heard my phone go off.
Sarah was calling me, and I haven't talked to her since she left for Wilmington with the group.
"Hey," I say once I answer. "What's up?"
"Hey! I'm on my way to the beach with some people from high school. They asked if you wanted to come too!"
She was hanging out with people from our high school? That was a little random, she hasn't talked to anyone in a long time. Neither of us have.
"Oh really?" I ask, "How are you getting there?"
"I ran into Topper earlier today, and he invited me out on his boat. We ran into some other people, and they said we should come."
"Okay," I say, trying my hardest not to judge that she was with her ex right now. "Sure, I'll come."
"Yay! Perfect, we're about halfway down, there's a whole big group of us so you'll definitely find us."
"Okay, see you soon," And I hang up the phone.
I pull myself out of bed, stripping from the clothes I was in. Dropping them in the hamper next to the freshly washed basket of clothes that I had just gotten back from Rafe's. Immediately kicking that to the side, I grab a lilac bikini from one of my storage drawers. I pull it over my body, tying the straps together tightly.
Even though I was trying very hard not to judge, I still couldn't stop myself from wondering why Sarah was hanging out with Topper. She was dating John B, and it was no secret that the two didn't like each other.
So why would she put herself in that situation?
Pulling some jean shorts over my legs, and then a tank top over my head. I lazily stuff a towel into a Nassau tote bag and I'm out the door.
I run into Maggie on the way down, she was relaxing on the couch. And glances up from the living room as I come down the stairs.
"Hi babe, where you off too?" She asks, putting her phone down.
"The beach with Sarah and some friends from high school I guess, is that cool?"
"Of course," She tells me. "Will you be home for dinner?"
"I think so."
"Send me a text if it changes?" She asks, to which I nod. "You're not drinking right?"
"I wasn't planning on it," I tell her.
"Again, if you do, give me a call I'll come get you. We'll pick up your car in the morning."
God, I love Maggie.
I nod, "Thanks Maggie."
"Be careful driving. Love you honey."
"Love you too Maggie." I walk out the door, unlocking my car and getting into the front seat.
As I start my drive, halting at the stop sign right outside my neighborhood, I spot a dark suv approaching. My stomach drops, feeling almost like I had just gotten punched. I easily had enough time to pull out in front of the car, but my eyes were desperate to get a view of the driver.
