"Barry."
I'm sorry - who the fuck is Barry?
I furrow my face in concern as I glance between the two boys in front of me. My gaze returns to the run-down-looking boy who stood way too close to me. He smirks, a gold tooth gleaming in the sunlight.
"Why you so quiet Rafe?" the Barry boy mocks. Rafe towered over the long brown-haired boy, which should make him feel more secure, knowing how egotistical he is. But his fidgety behavior told me otherwise.
"I...I-I didn't expect to see you here man," Rafe scrambles while letting out a nervous laugh. His eyes flash to me, and I hear the car unlock behind me. "Get in the car."
My eyes flash back and forth between the two, I feel so confused. Who is this? And why was Rafe acting so weird?
"Cory. Get in the car - right now." Rafe's tone was low and warning. When I notice his eyes starting to narrow, I quickly turn around. I tug on the handle and watch as a hand crashes down on the door.
"Cory, how about we have a chat," Barry says while shutting the car door. I rotate on my heel, folding my arms over my chest as I do so. Despite Rafe's panicked expression, I keep mine ice cold.
"No Barry, she's not involved with this," Rafe is quick to say. Barry only smirks in response, and I see Rafe look back at me with pleading eyes. "Get in the car."
"We'll have our chat eventually," I hear Barry say before I close the door shut. The two boys walk further away from the car, just so I couldn't hear. I should have cracked the window. The heat caught up to me quick in this bloody car.
I lick my lips before opening the car door just a tiny bit. I strain to hear their quiet conversation, watching as Rafe's hand was on Barry's shoulder, making him look less frantic than I knew he was.
"No man, you told me three days," Barry says quite loudly.
"Lower your voice," Rafe tells him. "She can't know about this. Okay?"
"The Mrs doesn't know you're a raging coke addict?" I'm sorry, what.
"Barry, be quiet man," Rafe tells him. Barry suddenly slaps his arm off of his shoulder, clearly getting angry with Rafe's actions.
"You owe me my shit," Barry snaps loudly. I watch him look around, eyes stopping on the red motorcycle in front of him. "How can you not get me my money, but you have all this nice shit?"
I couldn't hear what Rafe was saying, he was speaking too low. Barry gives him a good shove backwards, causing Rafe's feet to stumble together.
"Come on man, I'll get you the money," Rafe was practically begging. "I just need a bit more coke to sell." So the money he needed wasn't for his dad, it was for this Barry guy. Rafe completely lied to me.
Rafe's a drug addict.
"It's too late for that shit man," Barry says while he grabs ahold of his collar. I push open the door, not wanting to watch whatever was about to happen. I don't bother closing it, knowing it would make a sound.
Barry suddenly grabs Rafe's wrist and shoves it down onto the hot exhaust of the bike. I let out a gasp as I hear him cry out, and I run quickly over towards the two boys.
"How's that feel country club, huh? This is what happens when you don't-"
I shove Barry off of Rafe as hard as I possibly could. Rafe collapses to the ground next to me, holding his wrist as he loudly winces in pain. Barry on the other hand, looks completely shocked that I had just pushed him.
