The party continued until 9 pm, but even after I reached home, Do-hee's comment lingered in my mind. I was surprised by what she said. Had someone spoken ill of her? Did she genuinely feel hurt by negative comments? If so, why did she keep finding herself in these situations? I decided not to dwell on it too deeply and tried to go with the flow. Suddenly, my phone rang.
'Hyerin? Why is she calling?'
"Hey, Mingyu. Congratulations on your event launch."
"Thanks, Hyerin. It was a bit stressful, but I'm glad it's over."
"By the way, I noticed you made Do Do-hee your new brand ambassador. I thought you knew better, Mingyu." Hyerin's tone made it clear she wasn't pleased with my choice. I took a deep breath, feeling defensive, but I didn't want her words to affect my decision. After all, she didn't have much say in my life anymore.
"Yes, Hyerin. I chose Do-hee as our new brand ambassador for Les Carats. I believe she's perfect for the role. Why do you say otherwise?" Her scoff irritated me.
"Mingyu, don't you know about her reputation? She's been involved in scandals. It's not good for your company's image."
I felt myself getting defensive. "Hyerin, I'm aware of her reputation. She's had controversies, yes. But do you know the full story behind those scandals? Maybe there are reasons behind her actions that we don't know about. She's not just a scandalous figure seeking publicity. Have you considered that?"
"Are you defending her now? Mingyu, you don't know her like I do. I work in the entertainment industry."
Hyerin's comment annoyed me further. "Hyerin, what I do know is that I don't make decisions based solely on rumors. You act like you know Do-hee better than me just because you're in entertainment. But what if those rumors aren't true and you're not aware of the real facts? Shouldn't we judge someone after hearing both sides? Let's drop this discussion. We won't get anywhere."
"Wow, Mingyu. You're really taking her side. I thought after I terminated the contract, you'd choose someone more aligned with me. But it seems your standards have lowered. Watch yourself, Mingyu, or your business might suffer. I'm telling you this as a friend."
I took a deep breath, trying to remain calm. "Look, I've made my decision. I don't need your advice, and I don't need someone telling me what to do. I know the potential of my company, and I believe Do-hee has what it takes to elevate Les Carats. This was my call, and I stand by it."
"Fine, as you wish. Seems like you're falling for her. But for our friendship's sake, I'm warning you, Mingyu. She's not what you think. It's best if you don't get involved with her in any way."
I felt the need to end the conversation. "Whatever you say, but my mind is made up. There's no point in discussing this further." I hung up before Hyerin could respond. I knew continuing the conversation wouldn't be productive. I chose to trust my own judgment and support Do-hee as the brand ambassador for Les Carats, regardless of Hyerin's warnings. Suddenly, I realized I had just defended Do-hee.
'Gosh, have I really started to fall for her? Am I crazy? No, no, it's just business. As the CEO, I have a responsibility to defend my brand ambassador's reputation. I followed protocol. But... what about earlier at the event when I checked her out? That's not professional behavior. No, it is. I was just ensuring she was dressed appropriately so people would recognize her as the brand ambassador. Yes, that's it. I did nothing wrong. Everything was for the sake of business. Right.'
Today was exhausting. The event took a lot out of me. I should just rest for today. Suddenly, my mom texted me.
