Mr. Hong looked agitated, his eyes filled with anger as he stood in front of my desk. He slammed his palm on my desk, making me flinch slightly. "What on earth are you doing?!"
I couldn't believe the audacity this guy had, barging into my office and then slamming his palm on my desk. "I would ask you the same question, Mr. Hong. You know you can't just storm into my office like this. You have some nerve."
Mr. Hong chuckled dryly, his expression a mixture of mockery and anger. "Oh, spare me the formalities, Mingyu. I'm here because I've got questions. And I want answers."
I kept my expression neutral, refusing to let him get a rise out of me. "Alright. Ask your questions. What do you want to know?"
"How come Do-hee's getting so hurt under your watch?!" he fumed.
I was taken aback by his sudden question, but I kept my cool, giving him a measured look. "What do you mean, Mr. Hong? What makes you think I'm responsible for Do-hee's pain?"
Mr. Hong's eyes narrowed, his expression becoming more intense. "You know exactly what I mean. You're Do-hee's boyfriend, aren't you? You're the one who's responsible for everything that's happening to her right now." He slammed his fist on my desk again, causing a few items to shake. "So don't play dumb with me. I want to know what the hell is going on."
My irritation grew with every word that came out of Mr. Hong's mouth. I leaned forward, my gaze fixed on him. "Listen, Mr. Hong. I care about Do-hee deeply, and it kills me to see her hurt. But you have no right to accuse me of causing her pain just because I'm her boyfriend. And for the record, I have nothing to do with what's happening to her right now. So don't come in here making baseless accusations."
Mr. Hong chuckled dryly as he spoke, bitterness lacing his tone. "I left the country, thinking that leaving Do-hee with you would make her happy, but look how things turned out, huh? Maybe I should've stayed with her instead of trusting you." He looked at me with a mix of anger and disappointment. "Looks like my trust was misplaced. You couldn't even keep her happy and safe. Some boyfriend you turned out to be."
My jaw clenched tighter as he spoke, his words cutting deep. But I refused to let him get the better of me. "You have no idea what you're talking about," I said firmly, my voice steady. "I've always tried to protect Do-hee and make her happy." I paused for a moment, choosing my words carefully. "You left her, Mr. Hong. You don't get to come back and accuse me of failing her when you walked away."
Mr. Hong clenched his jaw, his eyes narrowing in anger. "Don't you dare try to turn this around on me. You were the one who swooped in and took her away. And look where that got us. You couldn't even keep her safe from the media shitstorm. Maybe I should've stayed and protected her instead of letting her go with you."
My irritation turned into anger as he continued to hurl accusations at me. I stood up from my chair, towering over him. "You have no right to speak like that. You walked away from her, Mr. Hong. You don't get to come back and act like some protective hero now. Yes, I may not have been able to shield her from everything. But I've always tried my best to be there for her. You, on the other hand, were nowhere to be found."
Mr. Hong's face twisted into an ugly sneer at my words. "Oh, so now you're the knight in shining armor, protecting her honor? Spare me the bullshit, Mr. Mingyu. You may have been around, but you couldn't even keep her safe from the media vultures. You couldn't even prevent her own mother from speaking up against her. You failed her."
"And what about you, Mr. Joshua? You chose to leave her behind. But I stayed. I stayed and did everything in my power to support her and be there for her, even when she shut me out. So don't come here and act like you're any better than I am."
