It's been two days since Do-hee's mother stopped pestering her. She mentioned that her mother has not been contacting her, and her last message was about abruptly cutting ties, placing all the blame on herself, which is far from the truth. Do-hee is more than happy with how the situation has turned out, blissfully unaware of the deal. She also decided to change her apartment and is currently looking for a new place to stay, although I wouldn't mind sharing mine with her. Today, she's out for some movie rehearsals while I have to attend a jewelry showcase event.
I wore an ocean-blue suit with my hair slicked back slightly. During the event, while I was talking with my friend Cha Eunwoo, who was also there, my eyes caught sight of the least likable person: Hong Jisoo, aka Joshua. He wore a black top underneath a matching black leather jacket, which suited him well, but not better than me. When the event started, we surprisingly ended up sitting near each other at the same table.
"So you're Mr. Kim Mingyu, Do-hee's boyfriend," he said with a smile, but I knew better than to think it was genuine.
"Yes, I am. And also the CEO of Les Carats. You must be...?"
"I'm Hong Joshua, an American-Korean photographer and Do-hee's friend," he replied, extending his right hand for a handshake, which I accepted. "So, how's Do-hee?"
"I thought you two were friends?"
"Oh, we are. It's just that we've both been busy these past few days and haven't been able to meet lately."
"Well, that's unfortunate. I'll try to tell her about it," I said, looking back at him. 'Which, by the way, is never going to happen.'
"I appreciate your effort, but you don't have to, Mr. Kim. I'm planning to meet her this Sunday."
"Can't. She has plans this Sunday. With me. We've got a date."
"Ah...I see. Well, no problem. I can meet her anytime. After all, we almost meet each other every day due to overlapping schedules."
"You guys must be very close, I see. Although I've never heard her speak about you," I sneered back at him.
"Maybe you just don't pay attention to her. After all, you're a very busy businessman. I doubt you can give her time with all that stress on your shoulders."
"She comes before my business. I'll drop everything for her anytime, any day."
"Well, what would make me believe it?"
"I'm her boyfriend, Mr. Hong. The man she chose. And as her boyfriend, I choose to be beside her always, to keep her happy, to protect her, to spend time with her. I would choose her over anything again and again. That's how much she means to me."
I think he saw the conviction in my eyes and understood why I would do anything for Do-hee.
The guy then looked at me and said, "I hope you always keep her happy, Mr. Mingyu. She's...one of my precious friends. And she deserves all the happiness in this world. I hope you can give it to her." And I think for once I agree with him. Do-hee indeed deserves to be happy.
"You don't have to worry about it, Mr... Joshua. That's the first thing I always make sure to do for her," I said, giving him a neutral smile.
"Well, I'm counting on you. Because if she gets hurt, I'll make sure to be your best paparazzi. Now, let's take a picture, shall we?" he said, flashing a fake smile. My intuition tells me this guy has feelings for Do-hee, but I brushed it off, thinking Do-hee is still with me. We're going to stay together for two more months.
"Sure," I replied, also giving a fake smile. I posed with my best professional smile for the photographer while taking a photo with him, even though I didn't like this guy.
