Chapter 8: A Haunted Mansion

A few days after Y/N's death, Aqua was outside the stables trying to get a bonfire going.

Aqua: "So cold... I shouldn't have pawned my coat. It's too cold..."

She was squatting down in front of a very small fire, and a gust of wind weakened it.

Aqua: "Ah! The fire!"

She took Kazuma's tracksuit and Y/N's hoodie and tried to revive the flame with them. Y/N and Kazuma smacked her head.

Y&K: "The hell?!"

Kazuma: "Quit screwing around! How dare you try and destroy our only mementos of our world?!"

Y/N: "Ah, my hoodie! There's a burn mark! Aqua, you bitch!"

Aqua: "I don't have any choice! What else is there to burn?!"

Kazuma: "That hagoromo! Give it here! It looks like it'd burn better than a tracksuit or a hoodie!"

Kazuma tried to take Aqua's hagoromo by force, but Aqua held it strong.

Aqua: "Let go, shut-in NEET!"

Y/N: "Steal!"

With a blinding flash of light, Y/N stole Aqua's hagoromo.

Aqua: "Ah! Y/N!"

Kazuma: "Good job, Y/N! Throw it in the fire!"

Another gust of wind completely killed the fire. Aqua kneeled down in front of it and tried to revive it by blowing air into it. It didn't work and she started crying.

Kazuma: "We gotta do something."

Y/N: "Obviously we need to go to an inn, dumbass."

Kazuma: "You're the dumbass! Every inn in town is already full of adventurers!"

Y/N: "Oh yeah. Crazy how that's actually true. You'd think there would be more inns in a town like this."

Kazuma: "Mhm. Alright, Aqua. Get up. We're going somewhere."

After Aqua calmed down some, the three started to walk somewhere, led by Kazuma. Before they could get too far, though...

Y/N: "Huh?"

... Y/N saw Megumin walking towards him. She took his arm and started dragging him away.

Y/N: "... What're you doing?"

Megumin: "It's time for our daily explosion walk, Y/N."

Y/N: "Oh. Can't that wait? I was going somewhere with Kazuma and Aqua."

Megumin: "Do you even know where?"

Y/N: "... No."

Megumin: "Then come with me. At least you'll know where you're going."

Y/N: "Oh, fine. Whatever. Do you really have to drag me, though?"

Megumin: "No, I suppose I don't."

Megumin let go of Y/N's arm and slowed down so she was walking next to him. The two walked out of town together, and once far enough, started singing their explosion song while skipping.

Y&M: "Bakuretsu, bakuretsu, la-la-la! Bakuretsu, bakuretsu, la-la-la!"

Y/N: 'I wonder why we have to skip, to be honest. Is singing not enough?'

Nonetheless, the two kept doing that until they got tired. Which was when they were near Megumin's target, the same old castle. With nothing else to think about, Y/N thought back on his best friend's behavior ever since he died. The day he died she was sad, the next she was almost her usual self, and the next she was her usual self. However, she has become bolder for whatever reason.
