Chapter 3: A Masochistic Crusader

Standing in front of Y/N and Kazuma was Darkness, a woman who had just asked to join their party while panting. Her cheeks were a slight pink as she put her hands on both Y/N's and Kazuma's hands. Both looked at her hands on theirs and then at her.

Darkness: "Please let me join your p-p-party."

Y/N: 'Uh... Yeah, I don't know about this. She's... odd.'

Kazuma: "Um..."

Sensing the guys' uncertainty, Darkness continued.

Darkness: "Those two ladies covered in slime were your companions, were they not? What exactly happened to them?"

Y/N: 'What, is she mad about that?"

Kazuma: "W-Well, we had some trouble with some toads, and they kinda got eaten by them-"

Darkness: "What?! It's worse than I thought."

To Y/N's surprise, she doesn't seem all that mad. More excited, actually. Which actually made Y/N question her even more. And more weirded out.

Darkness: "No, wait! As a knight, I will not overlook two girls of such a tender age having to go through such horrors!"

Y/N: 'I am so glad she's looking mostly at Kazuma. But still, I do not like this. I oughta dip before this escalates...'

So, he stood up, her hand still on his.

Y/N: "Well, if you'd excuse me, I need to go to the restroom real quick. See you later."

Surprised by this, Darkness relaxed her hand a little, allowing Y/N to take his hand away. He then speed walked away.

Kazuma: "Hey! Y/N, don't leave me here! Y/N! Y/N! Help me!"

Y/N: 'I'm really sorry, bro. I'll buy you a beer or something.'

A short while later, he was walking down the main road of the town, wondering what he should do next. It was pretty quiet, as it was already evening, and most people were home. Those who weren't were either out drinking or eating. Or, in Y/N's case, bored with nothing to do.

Y/N: 'Maybe I should've stayed, just for the drama. Wouldn't be bored, at least.'

There really isn't anything for him to do, so he decided to walk. Just walk. Yes, boring, but better than nothing. After what felt like 10 minutes to him but was actually just 5 minutes, he saw someone hitting apples in a tree in attempt to make them fall. Almost immediately, he recognized that it was Megumin. He looked at her for a moment, and walked up behind her. He didn't say anything though, and just stood there. Megumin eventually managed to make one apple fall, and she giddily picked it up and turned around, taking a bite.

Y/N: "What're you doing?"

Megumin: "AH!"

She almost choked on the apple, but her surprise made her spit most of it out. Right on Y/N's hoodie.

Y/N: "..."

Megumin: "Y-Y/N, don't scare me like that! I nearly choked, you know?"

Y/N: wipes the apple away "Yeah, whatever. But seriously, what are you doing?"

Megumin: "Oh, uh... Getting something to eat."

Y/N: "You couldn't have come to the guild for that? We already got the money for the quest."

Megumin: "Ah. Um... Didn't I say I didn't need to be paid money if I joined your party?"

Y/N: "We didn't agree to that. We let you join after you made everyone think Kazuma's a pervert. Besides, we're a party, we share our reward money."
