Chapter Five
Tristan's POV
I sat down on an empty seat beside Teagan as she kept smiling to herself. What was wrong with her? Did she do anything to my mate again?
I nudged her which made her smile falter as she looked at me in astonishment. "What?" She asked, frowning deeply. "You didn't do anything to Arielle, did you?"
She shot me a devilish smirk in return. "You will see, bro. You will see." She chuckled, twisting her hair in curls. I shook my head disapprovingly, feeling worried for the tricks this little kid would pull on my mate.
I heard feet thumping down the stairs as Arielle emerged from the corner. She walked into the kitchen confidently in her unicorn pajamas as her gaze stayed on Teagan the entire time. Her eyebrows creased when she frowned.
"Look at that unicorn girl." Teagan mocked. I felt like smacking her head for disrespecting my mate. She folded her arms and smirked. "What about the villain who turned on the heater while I was sleeping?"
Her eyes widened slightly as she pouted. "That wasn't me."
"I didn't say it was you, Teagan Warden." She shrugged in response.
"But you have admitted it yourself because of your pout. You always does that when you are caught for the wrong things you did." My lips curled into a smirk upon her words. She was quick-witted to have noticed that trait from her.
I looked at Teagan who kept her lips pursed. That means she had hit the bulls eye.
"Is that true?" Mom questioned Teagan as she sat down opposite me, listening to their conversation. I leaned back against my seat as I awaited for the scolding to come. Teagan, though she was the second-born, was always the one getting scolded.
Everytime she was going to get scolded, I was there to defend her. But this time, she had gone too far. She had made my mate uncomfortable in her sleep.
I watched as her cheeks went as red as beetroot when she admitted it. "But mom, she shoot the bullet from her Nerf gun at my ass."
"That's because you made me trip and fall when I was coming out of my room." Arielle rebutted, sticking her tongue out at her.
"Hey, you made fun of me when I was eating cookies."
"Says the one who dropped a bucket of cold water on me when I entered the classroom last Friday." My eyes widened as I glared at Teagan.
"So? You threw a pie at my face the other day at the canteen. I had turned into a laughing stock because of you, Arielle Bradford."
"That's because you-" She was cut off by her mom who glared at her in anger. "I brought you here for a vacation. And here you are, fighting with Teagan."
"But mom, she started the fight first." She pointed her finger at her, completely pissed off.
"But you shouldn't fight with the hosts. You are a guest here." Arielle immediately pouted at her words and got up immediately. She stormed off the kitchen in a rage, not before glancing over her shoulders at Teagan who sent her a devilish smirk.
That was a smirk of triumph.
This little kid. I swore I won't defend her in front of mom when she gets into trouble the next time. She had f*cking upset my mate.
"Mate is upset. Aren't you going to comfort her, you dumbass?" Al let out a growl. I agree with his words actually. I stood up, leaving my meal untouched as I walked out of the kitchen.
I followed the lingering scent which led me to the porch where I noticed a little figure laid on the armchair. Her back was facing me as I approached her.
Sitting down on the space beside her, I let my fingers softly caress her right cheek. "Are you okay?" I asked, my heart torn at the sight of my mate who was so upset.
This was the first time I had seen this side of her.
She shifted her head to look at me as she shook her head. "I am fine." She mumbled. She was as though trying not to show me her weak side as she stayed strong.
But I wish she would cry and throw tantrum in front of me. I didn't mind seeing that side of her.
"You know, if you have things bottled up in your heart, you can tell me. I will always be here to listen to you." I said, tucking strands of her hair behind her ears. She sat up, her eyes blurred with tears as she looked at me in astonishment.
"Don't you blame me for acting so cold towards you lately?" She asked. Did she do it on deliberate? Why did she even do it?
She arched an eyebrow when I didn't respond. I shook my head as I wiped away a tear which trickled down her rosy cheek. "Sugar, I would never blame you."
"Sugar?" Her eyes lit up at the nickname. I nodded, grinning cheekily. "Whether you like or not, sugar will be your new nickname."
"Hey, I prefer Arielle." She pouted, in a cute way.
"By the way, big guy."
"Big guy? Since when do I have a nickname?" I chuckled deeply.
She rolled her eyes, shaking her head. The wind blew past us as she shivered slightly. Seeing that she was cold, I removed my jacket and draped it over her little body.
"What are you doing?" She exclaimed when I tightened it. "Keeping you warm, sugar. I don't want to see you falling sick." I replied as she stifled a yawn.
"You are tired."
"No, I am not." She pouted, which made me want to lean in and kiss her. But I held back for the sake of ruining things between us. The kiss earlier already caused her to act so cold towards me that I didn't want to let history repeat itself again.
"Come on, sugar." I said, widening my arms for her.
She stared at it for a moment before she shook her head. "I don't think it is a good idea-" I cut her off by pulling her into my arms as I engulfed her into a hug.
She struggled for a while but stopped when she realised it was all futile. I wasn't going to let her go that easily once she enters my embrace. She was mine.
I breathed into her scent. Strawberry vanilla scent smelled nice on her body. Though I have to wait for her for another four years until she matures, I don't mind all the wait.
This sweetheart was mine to keep.
