Chapter Thirty-Three

Arielle's POV

The moment I woke up, I was in great pain. I have no idea what caused me to feel such great pain, it was even worse than my monthly period.

It was as though my heart was stabbed by a knife million times over, it hurts like hell.

Tears trickled down my cheeks freely as I cried at the immense pain. I wish someone could stop this pain even for a moment.

The door flung open as footsteps entered the room. "Honey." Mom's soothing voice calmed me down slightly as she turned me over.

She instantly yelped in pain upon touching me, taking a step back in fright. "You are in heat, Arielle." She said, eyes flickering with sadness in them.

Was this how it feels like to be in heat?

"Mom, help me." I groaned, pleading her for help as I reached out to touch her. "I will make sure the doctor gets here immediately. Don't worry, honey."

"No." I wheezed out, gritting my teeth. "I don't want to see anyone while I am in this state."

"Honey." She heaved a huge sigh, shaking her head as she bent down to meet my eye level. "Then you will have to come with me to a place to fully recover from the heat."

Curled up on the back seat of the car, I gritted my teeth at the pain. This was so tormenting. Why do I have to face the heat at this ungodly timing?

"Are you alright, honey?" Mom asked, concern dripping from her voice. "I am in pain, mom." I croaked out, closing my eyes as sweat trickled down my forehead.

The car pulled up by the curb as I found myself looking out of the window. The building was in the middle of nowhere surrounded with electric fences.

"Where is this place, mom?" I asked, feeling the door pulled open as she helped me out of the car. "Your condition is really serious, honey. We need to go in first."

We walked down the hallway with many doors surrounding us. Behind those doors were sobbing noises belonging to females.

Where the hell are we?

Mom finally pulled me into a white-washed room with a bed and a connected bathroom. Other than a closet, that was all in this compacted room.

It felt like I was going to live in hell for the next few days.

"Mom, I am scared. Where are we?" I asked again, looking at her with a pleading look. "You will be living here for the next few weeks until you have reached the last stage of heat."

"What?" I gasped. How the hell would I know when would be the last stage of heat?

"Don't worry, honey. I will visit you everyday and keep you company." With that said, she turned around and left while all I heard was sobbing coming from her.

The door closed after she left while a young nurse stood behind the bars. "For your information, 8am, 12pm, 6pm and 10pm are the different meals timing. You will be released from your room for 2 hours each day to stay in the backyard. Visiting hours are only limited to 3 hours each day."

And with that, she left.

I sat down on the bed, raking my fingers across my hair in frustration. How am I going to survive the heat in this prison-like place?

A girl around my age peeked out from her room as she looked across the walkway. "Are you new here?" She asked, clinging onto the bars.

I climbed out of the bed and wrapped my fingers around the cold metals. "Yes, I am. And I am terrified."

"Don't worry, it will be over before you know it. I'm Riley and you will be seeing me often since we live across each other." I barked out a laugh at her attempt to joke, smiling at her.

"I'm Arielle, it was nice knowing you."

"Great! Since we clicked off so well, why don't you lay down your questions so that I can answer them? I have been staying here for quite a while and I was just like you when I first came, dying to know what was going on."

I laid on the bed fully naked since I was really dying from the intense heat. It felt so warm even when I was in an air-conditioned room.

F*ck this shit, I need another cold bath.

"Free time starts from now to 18:00." The young nurse announced, standing behind the door as she unlocked the door to my room.

I grabbed a robe and wrapped it around my body as I left my room and joined other unmated she-wolves who were currently in the same state as me.

My eyes found the familiar blonde haired and I immediately walked towards her. She waved at me upon noticing me and we walked down the stairs to the backyard together.

Within the few days I was here, I learnt that this place was used to house unmated she-wolves who were undergoing the 3 stages of heat.

Only when I have reached the last stage will I get to leave this hell hole. And it mostly takes from 3 weeks to a month, or more.

The moment I exited the building, snowflakes began falling as it formed a path in front of me. I stepped on the surface barefoot, feeling the heat slightly calmed down.

I widened my arms, embracing the winter season as I ran to the nearest lake which have formed into solid ice. Laying down on the solid ice, smoke literally drifted up until it turned into nothing.

It seems like I was burning really badly, even the doctors here couldn't even figure out what was wrong with me.

Riley joined me as she laid down on the solid ice, widening her arms as she created a snow angel. "One good thing about the heat is that we are always in need of ice. Winter came at the right time."

I laughed, nodding my head in agreement. "How I wish I could get this heat over with. I want to sleep on my own bed again."

"Who doesn't?" Riley snorted, sighing in bliss as the cool breeze surrounded us.

The same young nurse towered over us as she handed me a letter. "A letter by your dashing knight. He dropped by to pass us this letter, conveying that it was meant for you to read."

"Oh, who is that?" She quipped, poking her nose into my business as she tried to reach out for my letter.

Must be Tristan.

Before she could even opened it up and read it, I took it from her hands and slipped the letter into my robe pocket.

"Nothing special." I shrugged casually. I have made up my mind not to read any of his letters until I have fully recovered from the heat and the nightmare.

Until I have decided to face him with confidence.
