Chapter Twelve

Tristan's POV

I woke up to find Arielle entering the cave as her hands held a folded cup made from leaves. She took a sip from it and gave me to drink the rest.

"We need to hydrate ourselves before we go back to the pack house." She simply said, while I took it from her and drank it. When she noticed me staring at her, she looked away with tint blush rising to her cheeks.

She was cute when she blushed.

"Can we head off now?" She asked, stifling a yawn as she stood up and pulled me along with her. Before we left the cave, she checked my wound briefly and grinned.

"It's all healed." She sounded relief as she released a sigh. I merely nodded, looking at how her curls fell when she bobbed her head up and down in excitement.

"Let's go." She said, looking up as her lips twitched into a small smile. Before long, we were making our way back to the pack house.

Since we were quite close to the borders, it would take quite a while before we reached the pack house. I could only hoped that she could make it until then since just now, she has been walking unstably.

I hung an arm around her small waist to support her as she gave me a weak smile. "Are you okay, sugar?" I asked, concerned about her wellbeing. She just nodded her head as I noticed that her face had turned paler.

We finally reached the threshold when I felt her knees fell weak and her body slumping to the ground. I swiftly caught her body before she could fall as I carried her in my arms. I quickly rushed into the house, noticing Alpha Nathaniel and Luna Shelly walking towards me.

"What happened to my baby girl?" Alpha Nathaniel asked as he caressed his daughter's cheek in concern. While Luna Shelly, on the other hand, was starting to hyperventilate at the sight of her daughter.

"I will explain later, Alpha. I need to get the pack doctor to check on her." I rushed out my words as I mind-linked Dr. Decker to make his way to the pack house right now.

I carried her fragile body up the steps as I entered her bedroom. The bedroom held lingering scents of my mate while I laid her down on the soft mattress. Pulling the duvets over her body, I sat down beside her silently as I clasped my hands over her cold ones.

It was all my fault. If only I had protected her, if only I had not let her leave my line of sight. Maybe, all of this wouldn't have happened.

I heard footsteps thumping behind me as I looked past my shoulder to see Dr. Decker who has arrived. I let him check on her as I walked out of her bedroom.

I was met with Alpha Nathaniel's worried look as he motioned for me to say something. "I am sorry, Alpha Nathaniel. It is all my fault." I mumbled weakly, tearing my gaze away from his as it landed on Arielle.

My eyes softened at the sight of her unconscious self, wishing a million times that I had never left her side. It was all my fault for not being able to protect her properly.

I shifted my eyes to Teagan as she stood by the corner, her body shaking in fear. 'Are you happy now, Teagan?' I mind-linked her as I glared at her.

Guilt flashed across her eyes as she hung her head down. She ought to be guilty for what she has done. I would never forgive her if I lost Arielle for good.

I won't let her get away with this, I told myself. Holding in my unshed tears, I clenched my fists tightly, until my knuckles turned white.

The doctor exited her bedroom as I noticed that her left wrist was connected to an IV tube hung against the wall. He looked at her parents and shook his head.

"She is currently unconscious, so she will have to be kept under observation until she wakes up. If you observe that something is wrong with her, send someone to inform me." His words hit me as I felt my body shook slightly. I closed my eyes tightly to control my tears from leaving my tear ducts as I walked towards Arielle.

It was all my fault.

A hand rested on my shoulder as I turned around to see Alpha Nathaniel's worried face. "Go get some rest, Nathaniel. We will look after her." Upon his words, I shook my head as I offered a weak smile.

"It is all my fault. I want to take care of her."

"Tristan---"

"She is my mate. Is this reason enough for me to stay by her side?" I finished, not allowing anymore discussion. My decision was final.

I heard a feminine gasp as Luna Shelly covered her mouth. Her eyes looked at me in surprise as I inwardly sighed at the uncanny resemblance which my mate had inherited from her mom.

Alpha Nathaniel on the other hand, held a neutral expression as his lips slowly curved into a soft smirk.

"I have already guessed it from the look in your eyes whenever you look at her." He paused, making me look at him in astonishment. "Alright then, Tristan. You can stay here and take care of her."

He turned to look at his mate and kissed her forehead as he wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her out of the bedroom. I sighed at the sight.

One day, I would be him, smiling down at my mate as I kiss her passionately.

I woke up to hear slight movements as Arielle was shifting her head from one side to another uncomfortably. I held onto her arms as I called her name several times.

My eyes widened when my hands made contact with her burning skin. I mind-linked Dr. Decker before shifting my palm to her forehead as I quickly rushed out of her bedroom to grab a bowl of ice water and clean cloth.

Making my way back to the room, I sat down beside her small figure and dipped the cloth into the bowl. I folded it into half as I placed it over her forehead.

I felt myself wide awake as I changed her cloth several times until Dr. Decker finally arrived. He quickly checked on her before releasing a sigh.

"She is running a high fever. You just have to make sure that she has ample rest and constant changing of the cold cloth." He said before he patted on my shoulder in encouragement.

When he left, I continued to lay the cold cloth against her burning forehead. I leaned forward and planted a chaste kiss on her burning cheek.

Wake up soon, sugar. I am waiting for you.
