Chapter Forty

Arielle's POV

There was a hint of warning in her tone as she pulled me back to the car we had taken just now. She started the engine and began driving off, her speed hastened.

She kept silent as she focused on driving down the roads, weaving past the cars ahead of us as she drove like a mad dog. My eyes flickered to the speedometer as it was getting faster and faster, definitely scaring the sh*t out of me.

I held onto the handle above me, my fingers gripping tightly. This crazy woman was driving at a speed of a maniac and I have no idea what is going on.

Last time I checked, we are not in a chasing game.

She nearly hit into another person's car when my quick reflexes made me shift over and turned the wheel to the left, missing the edge of the car by a few centimeters.

Both of us heaved a sigh of relief before I pushed her back to her seat and pulled up to the side, muttering a quick, "Step on the brakes!"

She did as she was told and the car came to a stop.

Luckily, our seatbelts managed to stop our heads from colliding into the glass panel as we jerked backwards.

My heartbeat quickly as I stared down at my hands which were already shaking. She almost killed both of us.

"Care to explain?" I asked as she continued to catch her breath, her hands clung onto the wheels tightly until her knuckles were swollen.

I grew even more aggravated as she continued to stay silent. I turned down the music slightly and growled, "What is going on?"

Her lips were pursed in a thin line as she hesitated from telling me. I knew something was going on.

"Is he related to me in the past?" She shook her head at my question.

"No," She started with a loud sigh. "No one in the past will have any connections with you. Your fate is tangled with this guy who has been eyeing on you for a long time."

I gasped, slowly trying to piece things together.

It all started to make sense. He was spying on me with something up in his sleeves. Even Romeo had once said that I should be careful and stay by my mate's side. Which meant that Romeo knew something that Fiona should probably know since she has been keeping tabs on my life.

"How much do you know about this guy?" I demanded, not caring about my safety at this moment. I needed to know what is going on and how I am involved in order to decide on what to do next.

She turned to look at me with eyes full of sorrow. "Years ago, his father formed an alliance with another pack's Alpha to wage a war against your father's pack. In the end, your father won the war and executed them, only sparing the lives of the innocent who eventually merged with his pack."

"But that wasn't actually the end.." She trailed off, shaking her head at her explanation.

"What happened?"

"His father's mate survived amidst the war and his heir was born. She decided to use him to exact revenge on your father for executing her mate. Her son grew up with one goal in his life, which is to take back his rightful position of his pack and kill your father." I gasped upon her statement, covering my mouth in shock.

"Isn't my father in danger right now?" I asked, tears welling up my eyes.

She shook her head, "His main concern isn't your father right now. He has been eyeing on you for so many years, knowing you are the only daughter. He needs you, in order to achieve his goal."

"He wants to use me for his purpose.." I whispered, slowly taking in the information.

I closed my eyes as I contemplated my next step. "Actually, the powers you have with you right now is very dangerous and the powers cannot be known to anyone."

My eyes flew open immediately at her words. "What do you mean?"

"If he finds out about your powers, he will definitely use it for the evil. Right now, you should keep it to yourself and don't let your mate know yet, if you truly want to protect him."

I sighed, nodding my head as I knew what she said was a fact.

The more I cannot control my powers, the more it should be kept hidden from anyone. The existence of its own is already very dangerous..

"Firstly, you need to know how to calm yourself down when you encounter such flashbacks. You need to learn to overcome them, taking in deep breaths and think of something else to distract yourself." She explained, holding onto my hands in front of me as she went through the steps with me while my eyes were closed.

"Take in a deep breath." She whispered, while I did as I was told, feeling her words slowly fading. I imagined myself in a field of flowers, examining them as I touched the pretty little petals.

My heartbeat was constant and I wasn't slightly affected by what was probably happening on the outside right now.

"Great job." A voice said, bringing me back to reality as I opened my eyes to see her smiling down at me. I smiled, starting to get the hang of this.

"Now, shut your eyes again and focus on imagining a certain yellow flame in your hands."

I closed my eyes and tried to imagine a flame. At first, nothing came out. My brows were creased as i tried to imagine the damn flame, but nothing was coming out.

My eyes fluttered open as I panted, sweat trickling down my forehead. She held onto my stiff shoulders, pushing them down with a good amount of force. "Relax, Ariella. You are so tensed, you need to relax in order to imagine that flame."
