Chapter Twenty-One

Arielle's POV

'Honey, can you get a packet of flour and a carton of eggs from the grocery store for me before you head home from work later?' Mom mind-linked while I replied back with an 'okay' and resumed my duties in the bookstore.

Three days passed by quickly ever since I overhead the conversation between my brother and my mom. Good thing that my current job kept me busy.

I worked in the bookstore part-time while studying in college at the same time. Kind of tiring but I got to choose my shifts in a week so it was not as bad as I thought. Plus, I had already gotten used to this lifestyle.

It kind of distracts me from thinking that d*ckhead most of the time. Sighing, I stacked the newly arrived books into the respective book shelves according to the alphabets.

A scent hit me as my sensitive nose began to sniff my surroundings. A faint chocolate and hickory scent hit my nose as I climbed down the ladder and pushed the pushcart past the shelf.

"Follow it." Nat waggled her wolf tail in delight as her eyes turned silver. What the hell was that?

My eyes caught sight of the door slowly swinging close as I pushed the pushcart to the room at the back. I was sure that I had smelled something. Maybe the person who had that scent left the bookstore?

Whatever it was, I hoped that there would be another encounter with that person who had that scent. I was very sure that it meant something if my wolf's eyes turned silver.

The door flung open as I whipped my head to the back to see Pamela sauntering into the room. "Hey, your shift is over. Time to clock out." She reminded, chuckling at my forgetfulness.

The bad habit about me was that, I could never keep track of my time. My brother would always claim that it was a disaster while dad would scold him everytime he shoot me with witty remarks.

The perks of being the youngest.

I washed my hands by the sink and checked my own reflection in the mirror as I tied up my brown waves into a neat ponytail. It was definitely not to look good in front of that d*ckhead.

"Denial. I can't wait to see how the guy looks like so that I can compare him to our future mate next time. I am sure our mate would be ten times better than him." Nat sneered at my thoughts, finding it funny as she contradicted my thoughts at every turn.

While I, on the other hand, found her existence pretty annoying. I had that bad vibe when my wolf surfaced just as I had turned sixteen. She was a beautiful brown wolf, the size beyond the average she-wolves.

But she had a loud mouth which I seriously hated it.

"Rude." She retorted, shutting herself in her own fantasy of mates and legends. I ignored her and grabbed my handbag as I clocked out before waving at Pamela.

Walking along the streets, I began to make my way to the grocery store which was not far away from the bookstore where I worked at.

As I entered the grocery store, I felt a gush of wind blowing past me as soon as the air-conditioner hit me. It was a good thing that we, werewolves were resistant to the cold so it doesn't really affect us, not like how the cashier across from me was moving side to side as if he wanted to pee.

I grabbed a packet of flour and a carton of eggs as per my mom's orders which was most probably the ingredients for cooking up a feast for our guests. I was excited to meet the duo again, but not the d*ckhead.

He can stay at the back, unnoticed for all I care.

By the time I reached home, it was already six in the evening. As I walked into the kitchen, a faint chocolate and hickory scent hit me.

I followed the scent until I reached the kitchen where the scent was the strongest, which meant that the person I was looking for had entered the kitchen not too long ago.

But who the hell was it? Even my quiet wolf began to get restless since I entered the door. Her eyes flickered from her usual colors to silver repeatedly like a light bulb which got me pretty pissed off.

I was so anxious to know who was it.

"Oh honey, you are back." My mom chirped, taking the bags from me as she took out the items she got me to buy. I looked at the spread of dishes she had prepared and gawked at the sight.

She hummed a tune and murmured, "The guests are already here, honey. I need your help to prepare the remaining dishes."

1 hour later...

As I set the tables, mom went up to call the guests down for dinner. I was totally not looking forward to see that d*ckhead again.

"Arielle bear." A high-pitched voice rang in my ears as I whipped my head around to see a pouting Tracy who grew taller with her hair down.

She was wearing her pjs with the phrase, 'sleep is all I need'. She rushed towards me and hugged me, her head just touching my waist.

She may have grown taller, but she was still shorter than me. "Tracy." I greeted, smiling down at her as she tilted her head to look at me.

"Forgetting me?" I looked up upon Teagan's voice and raised a brow at the beautiful woman standing in front of me. Apparently, she had graduated from high school and found a job instead of continuing her studies in college.

Things got pretty busy between us and we didn't had the time to meet up.

I cocked my head to the side and widened my arms for her. As if on cue, she rushed towards me and hugged me, crushing poor little Tracy who was sandwiched in between us. "Ouch, that hurts. Release me, fat women." Tracy groaned as we laughed out loud.

Soon, the adults began to file in as they took their seats at the head of the table while we sat further down the long stretch of table.

The only seat missing was for a person who was obviously the d*ckhead. I prayed that he will come down after I had finished my dinner, so that I could eat my meal in peace.

However, he had to spoil my joyous mood at the wrong timing. He came down from the stairs and joined us at the table. I stiffened as the wave of chocolate and hickory scent hit me again.

It was him. "Mate." Nat howled, wagging her tail in delight. What the f*ck? Tristan was my mate?

Tracy who was sitting beside me, deliberately poked Teagan and moved a few seats down. What the f*ck? They knew about it?

Traitors.
