Alone

I cried for hours after Luke left.

"It'll go by so fast," Jack said pacing around my room.

"It doesn't feel like it," I sniffled trying to wipe my face.

It had been a few days since Luke left, and we were still consistently texting but it was not the same as being face-to-face.

"Why don't we do something?" Jack proposed stopping in front of my bed.

"Yeah because I would love to walk around on crutches all day," I slumped.

"We can do something lowkey like I can push you around the zoo."

"That does sound like fun," I mumbled.

"Yes perfect, it is all set we are going to the zoo. Go get ready and I'll help you downstairs after."

I slowly made my way around my room trying not to fall over in the process. My body felt so much weaker when I was alone, I felt like a grandma trying to move around my room. As I was getting ready in my bathroom I was getting a call from Luke.

"Hello?" I said propping my phone up on the mirror.

"Hi baby, how are you today."

"I'm doing okay, how's school," I replied brushing my hair.

"It's fine, I had to go home and get my lunch because I forgot it this morning."

I laughed at his confession, "were you running late this morning?"

"I'm always running late to school, but what are you up to?"

"Jack and I are going to the zoo," I shrugged. "He's gonna put me in a wheelchair like an old person."

"Getting out of the house will be good, and you do love going to see the animals."

I smiled a little bit, "Yeah, I do."

"There's that pretty smile," he said before taking a bite of a sandwich.

"Yeah, it comes out occasionally."

"I wish I could see it in person," he mumbled.

"It's already been a week, only a handful more," I said trying to lighten the mood.

Luke put the phone closer to his face, "Are you really okay? You sound sad."

"I mean no I miss you and I'm stuck here, but I will be fine."

"Babe I'll get the next flight to you, I don't want you to be sad."

"No you have priorities at home, I want you there to finish up the school year."

He shook his head while swallowing his food, "I just want you to be happy."

"I will be happy when I'm cleared to fly again," I was now hobbling out of my bathroom.

"Please be careful walking," Luke said practically trying to climb through the phone.

"I'm trying my best," I gritted. "I feel like I got hit by a bus."

"I mean you did fall from mid-air," Luke butted in.

We continued to talk until I was ready to leave with Jack, he carefully helped me downstairs and into his car where we drove off towards the zoo.

"So how's Luke?" He asked.

I shrugged, "He's fine I think."

"That's good, he was so upset he had to go home."
