Does he really care?

When we got to the house everyone was outside, 

"Oh good you two are back," His aunt said walking over to us

"Yea we went to check out the boardwalk," He told her

"Luke, why don't you go hang out with your cousins, Dakota can you help me cook?" She asked

She seemed to have liked me which made me happy. 

"Why don't I just stay w-" Luke started

"That sounds fun!" I said 

Luke looked at me confused and I smiled at him. 

"Go with your cousins," I said pushing him lightly

"Are you sure?" He asked 

"I'm positive," I said

He kissed my forehead and ran down to the basement where I'm assuming the other boys were.

"Alright sweetheart, let's make some food," She said 

We both walked to the kitchen and started to make food. I helped her make a big salad and put some chicken on the barbecue.

When we went back into the kitchen and started talking. 

"So you and Luke are serious huh?" She questions 

"Yea," I responded

"I can see he really likes you, oh and you can call me Clarissa by the way" 

I looked up smiling, "You really think so?" 

"I see the way that boy looks at you, he's a teenage boy and he turned down doing stupid stuff with his other boy cousins," She pointed out

"That is true," I said 

The back door opens and more ladies walk in,

"Oh we are getting to know Dakota now," Another lady said walking in 

I turn and smile at her and she sits next to me. 

"So how old are you," She asks

"I'm 17," I said shyly

"Ah so the same age as Luke," She said

I nodded my head. 

"So what do your parents do for a living," She asked 

I froze at this question, what am I supposed to say?

"Um my mom is a pilot," I said shifting around 

"Ooo that's different, what about your dad?" She asked

"What about him?" I hear Luke's voice boom from the doorway

I look over and give him a weak smile, 

"What's with all the questions?" He asked walking over to all of us

"Lucas relax we are just getting to know each other," His aunt said 

"I don't know seems like some personal questions to me," He said 

"If Dakota doesn't want to answer a question as simple as what her dad does for a living then that's her choice," She said

"Luke it's not that big of a deal," I said, "My dad died a few days ago," I said turning to the ladies 

Luke looked upset but he just looked at the floor, the information caused the women to gasp in shock. Then the room filled with their 'I'm sorrys', all I could do was politely smile and assure them that I was ok. 

"Ok well on a lighter note, what did he do when he was alive?" Someone asked 

'Jesus woman would you stop talking about my father,' I thought
