I woke up a few hours later in discomfort.
"Luke," I shifted.
He didn't respond and stayed asleep.
I turned to look at him sleeping, he looked so peaceful sleeping next to me in the hospital bed. His arm was still wrapped around me as he slept, it wasn't the most comfortable pillow but it was definitely better than the hospital's pillow. I fell back asleep after watching a couple of people walk through the hallway in front of my room.
A couple of hours later I woke up from a nurse checking out one of the machines I was hooked up to.
"Hey Ms. Dakota, how are you?"
"Good," I whispered.
He asked me to move my legs and arms before leaving my room, Luke had moved to a table and was doing some schoolwork.
"Good morning," I whispered.
Luke looked up from his schoolwork, "Hey baby."
"Whatcha doin'."
"I'm doing some schoolwork."
"What kind?"
"Math."
"Gross."
"I know I have no idea what I'm doing."
I watched as he was reading something on his computer followed by him typing what I assumed was his answer to whatever problem he was working on.
"I'll be done in like 10 minutes tops," He said not looking up from his screen.
I nodded and watched as a nurse made rounds along the hallway passing out breakfast. She was putting a tray full of food on my bedtable within 5 minutes.
"Thank you," I said a little loud before she left.
She smiled before closing the door, "No problem sweetie."
I still wasn't able to pick up stuff like the utensils that went along with my breakfast. I picked up the spoon shakily and plopped it in the cup of apple sauce, I just stared at the spoon in front of me not wanting to pick it up.
"Do you need help?" Luke asked starting to put his stuff away.
"No," I mumbled.
"I know you do."
I shook my head and wrapped my hand around the spoon handle, my hand was shaking as I tried to lift it while Luke came over onto the bed.
"Just let me help a little," He said trying to adjust the table.
I didn't take my eyes off the spoon, "I just want to try to do it."
He nodded and put his hands down, I lifted my hand with the spoon up to my mouth. Luke was watching my shaky hand go up to my mouth.
"You did it," He smiled.
I nodded with the spoon still in my mouth.
"You want me to do the rest?"
I nodded again and we switched the spoon from my hand to his.
"You'll get it in a few days," He smiled getting more food from the plate.
"I feel like a baby," I muttered.
"You are, and when you can go home you'll be treated even more like a baby."
"No, I can do it alone."
"No, you can not."
I looked over at him while he put the spoon in my mouth, I shook my head before he removed the spoon.
