To say I didn't sleep well would honestly be an extreme understatement. I slept terribly. I was in constant pain and aches throughout the night. I would get a maximum of half an hour sleep before either Jungwon or I had moved too much and it would begin hurting too much in my shoulder.
So this morning, it couldn't be a surprise I was awake before Jungwon, loooong before Jungwon. I was too hungry, too thirsty, in too much pain for me to sleep any longer.
"Come on Ji, we gotta wake up," Jungwon muttered and patted my head, making me abruptly lift my head from his shoulder.
"I am awake," I stated making him frown and squint his tired eyes over at me.
"How come you be so fresh and such... so early?" he muttered in confusion, making me just grin at him before pushing myself up to stand in front of him. Nudging his side with my foot.
"Doesn't matter, now come on," I urged and brought my left arm up to my chest, immediately easing the pain in my shoulder. I guess I just had to keep it there.
"Did it hurt too much for you to sleep?" he questioned and stood up, grabbing his jacket as well before walking over to me.
"No, I was fine," I shook my head at him.
"Are you sure?" he questioned and I just hummed and nodded again.
I knew if I was to verbally answer him he would know in a heartbeat that I was lying through my teeth to him. He somehow always knew when I was lying to him, and how he figured me out time and time again I still don't know.
"Ji," he sternly stated and I just hummed and nodded once more.
"Let's just go... I don't know if you can hear it, but my stomach isn't too happy right now," I stated making him hold a hand over my mouth and listen closely as my stomach let out another loud growl.
A small smile immediately spread on Jungwon's face. A smile of amusement to be exact. He found it amusing that my stomach was growling. I swear to god this boy... if we weren't in a life or death situation there was a 120% chance that I would've pushed him in the Han River.
"We'll go find food for you," Jungwon assured and grabbed my right hand before unlocking the door and carefully checking the hallway and softly pulling me out, "tell me if you get too tired. I'll carry you again."
"Don't say anything you'll regret soon," I let out a small laugh making him just look down at me with a small smile.
"I won't regret it," he assured and gave my hand a small squeeze.
"I think we have to turn down this hallway," I stated and pointed down a hallway, making Jungwon slowly nod.
As we began walking Jungwon held tightly onto my right hand, swinging our hands back and forth as he once in a while would happily hum or do a few skips down the hallway.
I smiled softly at the sight, it was so odd to see. How such happy energy still could live in this dull and terrible castle. I really didn't get where he got it from.
"Are you happy today?" I questioned him, making him abruptly stop and look down at me as I stopped walking as well.
"I think I just realized something," he shrugged, making me send him a tired smile.
"Well... impressive you can be happy right now," I hummed at him, making him just grin before walking closer to me, "what?"
"You look tired," he said and I simply hummed.
"Exhausted," I corrected him.
"We've not even been walking for an hour," he frowned at me and I just hummed at him, "let me carry you some of the way."
"No, it's fine," I shook my head at him with a small smile.
"Are you sure? You lost quite a lot of blood last night," he pointed out, "and you're kinda dehydrated and as far as I know you're pretty damn hungry."
"I really am hungry," I nodded in agreement before beginning to walk again, Jungwon slowly trailing after me, keeping a tight grip on my hand.
"If this is about staying strong and such, I don't want you doing it. It's fine if you're feeling weak, I will carry you with no hesitation," Jungwon eargerly spoke in a cheery tone. A tone that did not match my energy right now.
"I know," I hummed at him, "but it's fine."
"But you're pale," he commented, making me let out a small snort.
"That's not new, is it?" I questioned him with an amused smile.
I simply just smiled at him as I continued to tug him along with me down the hallway. We walked quietly until the cloud flooding my mind made me stumble over my own feet and Jungwon had to catch me with an arm around my waist.
"That is it... I'm carrying you," he sighed at me and quickly swept his arm under my knees and laid the other behind my back.
The moment my feet left the ground and my back's weight had been put on his arm. I immediately let out a hiss of pain without a second thought. At the sound of my hiss Jungwon immediately set me down on the ground and frowned at me.
"You lied," he said, making me just wince in pain again as his hand moved up to touch the wound on my shoulder, "it hurts."
"So what if it hurts?" I hissed at him, "it's not gonna change anything but slow us down if I show that it hurts," I snapped at him making him simply sigh.
"I'm gonna lift you, and you can't change my mind," Jungwon sighed, swopping me up carefully once more, "tell me if it hurts."
"Jungwon I-" I started but he immediately shushed me making a deep sigh escape my mouth instead.
I was silent as Jungwon just continued down the hallways. I would mindlessly glance around out of pure boredom. Once in a while, more like every third second, I would glance at Jungwon's face just to make sure he was alright.
"Jungwon?" I questioned making him hum in return.
"What? Did you spot something odd on my face?" he questioned and glanced down at me, making me simply shake my head.
"I think I can walk by myself now," I said, making him stop in his tracks and just look down at me.
"Are you sure?" he questioned and I just nodded at him.
He hesitantly nodded before letting go of the hold under my knees. I smiled as my feet got in contact with the floor once again, finally stretching my legs out properly. But my smile soon faltered at the sight in front of me.
Jungwon collapsed on the floor.
