I held weakly onto Jungwon's shirt with one of my hands, as the other laid curled up between his chest and myself. My head rested against his shoulder as he rushed over and unlocked the door with the hand that held up my shoulders.
As Jungwon began running down the hallways of the castle I felt my head bump up and down against his shoulder. With each step he took I felt the pain in my neck and shoulder intensify.
"It hurts," I whispered, making Jungwon look down at me as he slowed down.
"It hurts when I run?" he questioned and I slowly nodded against his shoulder, "look I promise... I'll run out of the castle, and once we're outside in the sun I'll slow down and I'll walk all the way to your house."
"It's too long," I shook my head.
"It's closer than mine," he excused, "we need to get you somewhere safe."
"My parents," I calmly spoke and he just nodded at me.
"I'll lie," he excused before pressing a soft kiss to the top of my head, "I'll run again, it'll be over soon."
I sucked in a deep breath and closed my eyes tightly as Jungwon began running once again. Time and time again I would feel the pain in my body intensify in a rhythmical speed. Each step would hurt more and more, only sending me closer and closer to a dark hole in my mind.
Even though a feeling of relief washed over me as Jungwon stopped by the double doors in the front hall, I still felt like everything could go black in any moment.
"I see you're ready to leave," a booming voice echoed over the front hall making me let out a small whimper and clutched Jungwon's shirt just a bit tighter in my hand as I felt Jungwon turn around.
"It's the game master," Jungwon whispered down to me, making me slowly nod at him.
"You succeeded in the reversal then," the voice continued, "tsk, tsk, tsk... you used the old traditional method I see. Bad choice, Yang Jungwon, bad choice."
"It worked," Jungwon defended, earning a hum in return.
"It might've, but it has been known for generations that that very reversal method you've taken use of, is highly controversial. The survival rate for the sacrificing person is the utmost lowest. It is said to be near impossible to return the life to them once they're unable to stand for themselves," the voice continued in a nonchalant tone.
"He's lying Ji. Don't worry, I'll get you home and take care of you until you're better," Jungwon quickly leaned his head down beside mine to whisper into my ear.
"She looks quite dead, doesn't she?" The man continued again, making me poke Jungwon's chest with my finger. Once he reacted to my poke I poked a few more times.
"She's just fine," Jungwon assured, getting what I was trying to say. Somehow.
"I'll see you at her funeral," the man stated before I felt a cold breeze of fresh air hitting my face. We must've gone outside.
"You're gonna be fine, I promise," Jungwon assured as I could feel him walk with fast footsteps.
It still hurt when he took a step, but it wasn't as bad as when he had been running. It was a lot less painful.
"We're taking a shortcut to your house. I know a shorter way than through the carnival, do you trust me?" Jungwon questioned in a soft voice, even though he somehow sounded stressed and frantic at the same time.
"Of course," I murmured against his shoulder.
"I'll get you home safely, I promise," he assured and I just nodded as I could see the carnival pass me in the distance slowly being hidden by the hills that rose up around the valley.
"Jungwon-ah?" I called out, making him hum in return, "can you please continue talking?... so I know I'm still alive."
"Of course, what do you want me to talk about?" he hurriedly questioned.
"Not anything that just happened... What was the homework we had for chemistry?" I questioned him.
Jungwon glanced down at me before letting out a deep sigh before rambling on and on about what our homework was and following it up with how useless our teacher was in the subject. How she never taught us anything and that the school should fire her if they want us to be successful in the future. He really went off on a tangent with that one.
"We're here," Jungwon softly stopped his angry ramble about our chemistry teacher as I felt his steps halt, "don't worry, I have a lie up my sleeve. Just act on it."
"I don't have other choices," I muttered in agreement, making him let out a small laugh at me.
Jungwon slowly walked up to the front door and used his foot to knock on the door a few times. My mom soon opened the door, seemingly only seeing Jungwon at first glance.
"Oh, Jungwon. What are you doing he-" my mom paused in her tracks as her eyes fell on me and immediately widened.
"I'm sorry for the inconvenience mrs. Wang, but it seems that some people had attacked Jiyeon-ie when I arrived at the carnival," Jungwon spoke in a sad, desperate tone.
"You should've brought her to the hospital... my small girl," my mom muttered and laid her hand against my head, her warmth immediately making me feel a tiny bit better.
"I did," Jungwon nodded as he let out a loud breath, "they only helped on the biggest injuries before telling me to take her home."
"You walked all the way from the hospital like this?" my mom raised her head and looked at Jungwon in shock, before Jungwon just nodded.
"If you don't mind I'd like to stay over the night and make sure that she rests well and doesn't need further medical attention," Jungwon excused and my mom immediately nodded, "they said she'll just need rest, so I think I'll help her to bed."
"Of course, come in," my mom nodded and let Jungwon enter the house, "you know where her room is?"
"Of course, we do homework together," Jungwon smiled at my mom who just nodded before ushering him down the hallway towards my room.
Jungwon quickly rushed into my room and kicked the door close behind me before laying me down on my bed. He immediately sat down beside me and grabbed my hand tightly in his, a happy smile spread on his lips.
"Hey," he softly cooed out and brushed my hair out of my face, "look at us... out and alive."
