I swear it was only black for a second. It was only a second that I zoomed out of reality. No longer. I swear.
"Ji... Ji... wake up please," a faint and familiar voice called out, making me just nod in return, "I told you... you need food and water too."
"Just rest," I shook my head in denial trying to push myself up.
I was immediately pulled back by a grip on my waist, and it was first then that I realized that Jungwon was sitting behind me, having me rested up against him. He must be sitting against a wall for him to sit up straight.
"You need food and water too," Jungwon stated more sternly, "this is at least the second time you've fainted on me."
"No, no, no, I just closed my eyes," I shook my head in denial.
"I don't care what you think you did or what happened, you're gonna drink some water and eat some of that fruit, as I ask of you," Jungwon insisted and pulled the water bottle over to the side of his leg, "drink some."
I hummed before reaching down to the bottle, having Jungwon help me lift the bottle up to my lips as well. It was almost like a team effort to get the bottle up to my lips. Any other time I would've laughed at how ridiculous this was, but right now I was too tired.
The moment the water hit my tongue and slid down my throat felt heavenly. It was like a heavy rainfall in a desert. Like a dying plant that finally got watered after months of neglect.
"We need to save some," I muttered and pulled the bottle away from my lips, leaving less than half of the water in the bottle.
"You need it," Jungwon stated and I shook my head, reaching out for the fruit.
I carefully grabbed a few grapes in my hand and slowly ate them one by one as Jungwon wrapped his arm back around my waist and rested his chin on my shoulder, quietly muttering it was good that I was eating something.
However, the grapes didn't take a long time to fall into my stomach before a convulsing gagging motion started in my throat. It felt like my body was rejecting the food in my stomach.
"No, no, no, keep it down," Jungwon muttered as he gave my waist a small squeeze.
"I can't..." I whispered, making him softly turn my head to look at him as I felt myself get sick once more.
Jungwon didn't say anything, he just softly placed his lips on mine, cupping my cheek in his hand. Somehow the sick feeling in my stomach disappeared just by the sensation of the soft touch on my lips. It was as if my body got healed in a magical manner just by the soft connection between our lips.
"Better?" Jungwon whispered as he pulled away after a few seconds of having his lips on mine.
"Yeah..." I muttered, glancing down at his lips again before leaning my head back on his right shoulder, "I think we should rest."
"I wanna... I kno- I know this is the wrong time to talk about this... but I need to know," Jungwon murmured making me nod as I felt his face turn and he pressed his nose into my cheek, in a soft manner, "if I love you... and you love me... does that mean we can skip the dating part when we get out of here? Can I just call you my girlfriend when we get out?" His question made a small smile spread on my lips.
"Why just not do it now?" I questioned him and heard a small snort escape his mouth.
"You really think it is a good idea to take that decision right now?" he questioned and I lightly shrugged, turning my head to look at him.
"Well... we need something to cheer us up right now, right?" I questioned him and he just nodded in agreement, "besides... it would make it a lot less weird whenever we kiss if we can excuse it by being a couple."
"Is it now I ask you to be my girlfriend?" he questioned a small tired smile resting on his face, "in this dark gloomy broom closet, both of us on the brink of passing out once again, you with a big wound on your shoulder and both of us just generally, probably, on the verge of death."
"How about I ask you to be my boyfriend instead mister bright sunshine?" I muttered as a retort making him let out a small laugh and lean his head back against the wall, "so... are you agreeing to be my boyfriend?"
Jungwon let out a small laugh as he closed his eyes, one of his hands finding its way to interlace it's fingers with one of my hands. His laugh soon closed itself to just a small smile as he nodded his head.
"I'd love to," he hummed in return, making me tiredly smile up at him, before leaning my head back onto his right shoulder, "and I know I'd also love to take you out of here in safety, but I also know I can't promise you that."
"Just promise we'll try," I urged, making him hum in return.
"I wasn't planning on anything else," he assured and I nodded once more and let my eyes fall closed as he continued talking, "I remember... those eight months ago... when I walked home from your place," he said with a small laugh.
"Go on," I hummed and gave his hand a small squeeze.
"I was the happiest boy in the world that night," he sighed, "I had everything planned out. How I would ask you out, where I would take you on our first date, and the second, and the third... and the fourth. I knew how I wanted to ask you to be my girlfriend. I just had everything in my head, and it was all perfect and ideal... I told myself we were endgame."
"Maybe we are," I hummed, "we most likely are if we die here."
"Don't say that," he sighed, "we'll get out, both of us as completely alive human beings."
"Jungwon-ah? Can you promise me something?" I questioned making him hum at me, "if we don't succeed... and if I die in here... promise you won't blame yourself."
"I can't," he shook his head, "I am well aware that it is my fault that you're in here, and I'm well aware that everything that has happened to us up until now is my fault."
I let out a small sigh before tilting my head over to look at him, pressing a small kiss to his cheek.
"I don't blame you," I assured and he gave my hand a small squeeze.
"The only way I can make up for this is to get you out of here," he muttered and I hummed before tilting my head back to how it was just before, "and I'll do anything in my power to live up to that."
I hummed at his statement, my eyes still closed. My body is aching and feeling limp. I didn't even mind my injured shoulder anymore, my whole body was just hurting, which made the pain in my shoulder slowly fade into general aches along with the rest of my body. The last thing I remember before sleep took over me was Jungwon muttering a quiet "sorry" into my ear.
