I kept an eye on Jungwon's back as he looked out of the door to look if it was free for us to walk out.
"Yah... what's taking you so long," I complained to him and nudged the back of his shoulder as Jungwon had stood in the same place for some time.
"I'm just gonna go on the other side of this door, and you'll stay here until I let you come out, okay?" Jungwon stated, without even moving, making me just stare at his back in confusion.
"Are you okay?" I questioned him, hesitantly reaching my hand out to him.
"It'll just be a few minutes," Jungwon quickly excused and stepped out on the hallway and closed the door before I even had to react.
"Yah... Yang Jungwon," I complained as I tried to open the door, to no avail.
"No! Just... just wait... please," Jungwon begged from the other side, making me let go of the door handle as I just stared at it in confusion.
I let out a small sigh before walking back and sitting down against the wall as I just sat and stared at the door. I'm not sure for exactly how long I had sat and just stared at the door before it slowly creaked open, not more than a centimeter.
"Ji?" a small voice called out making me hum in return, "I'm sorry."
"Can I come out now?" I questioned before he just hummed in return.
I immediately pushed myself up from the floor before just walking over and flinging the door open, staring at Jungwon with an expectant look on my face. However when I saw he just stood staring down at his feet I sighed before immediately pulling him into a hug.
"You got me worried you idiot," I quietly scolded, making a small laugh escape from his lips, "now come on... I. Am. Hungry."
I smiled as I reached down and grabbed his hand and tugged him down the hallway along with me. It was fun now that there were windows in the hallway... all running on my left side where there had been portraits the night before.
"You know those scary portraits that was on the wall yesterday?" I questioned as I looked over at Jungwon who hummed at me, "Yeah... something tells me that they weren't portraits..." I admitted and tapped the window to my left making Jungwon immediately widen his eyes in realization.
"We're gonna avoid any paintings from now on," he whispered to me and I just nodded at him in agreement, "but let's just look for a kitchen for now... I can hear your stomach grumbling."
"In my defense though... yours would grumble too if you hadn't eaten anything but candyfloss in the past 12 hours," I defended making him look down at me with a smug smile.
"I haven't," he reminded me, making me let out a small huff before just looking away and walking faster down the hallway as I dragged him along.
Eventually the hallway did end, but it ended in a dead end with only a door to the right. I let out a small sigh as I let go of Jungwon's hand and let him check if the door was safe. Meanwhile I walked to the very end of the hallway where another window was.
In the distance I could see the workers at the carnival walking around and... starting the rides? But they were supposed to pack it down today... it was Monday and... I was supposed to be at school.
"Jungwon?" I immediately called out, making him look out at me as he just hummed, "today is Monday?"
"It is," he nodded at me.
"Then why... is the carnival just starting?" I questioned and he frowned before walking over beside me and watching as people began flooding the carnival and getting onto the rides.
"You don't suppose..." he slowly trailed off making me slowly widen my eyes at him.
"Time is in a loop when we're in here," I muttered and he hesitantly nodded, "but... but... would we still be aging?"
"I don't know," he admitted with a shrug.
"I want to go home, so badly," I muttered, making Jungwon glance down at me before wrapping his arm around my shoulders.
"I know... let's just go find a kitchen first. Your stomach is beginning to turn into a predator animal with the sounds it making," he commented making me glance up at him before letting out a small snort as I just nodded in agreement, "and then we can think about saving my life."
"Just thinking about it," I nodded, making him just nudge my shoulder as he rolled his eyes and walked through the door he had been checking, "yah! Will I die if I go in there?" I yelled out after him, making him smugly turn around and just smirk at me.
"Why don't you come in here and look for yourself?" he cheekily questioned.
"If I die now, so do you," I reminded him, "you'll just be dead alive and I'll be dead dead."
"You really think I'd want you to die?" he raised his eyebrows at me, looking amused.
"I'm beginning to think it," I nodded at him as I crossed my arms, "told me to come to some castle, probably stuck in a time loop, in a castle filled with fancy dead people wanting to kill me."
"Fancy dead?" Jungwon questioned.
"Zombies are dead people, vampires are fancy dead people," I pointed out and he just hesitantly nodded at me.
"Zombies are cool though," he defended, making me let out a small laugh before just walking down to him as he grinned in victory.
"And easier to escape," I reminded him, "slow speed, decomposing, probably doesn't have a brain. Vampires... still somewhat alive? Faster than any other living creature, very few weaknesses, clever, probably lived through decades... wait... would you rather be a zombie than a vampire?"
"Probably," Jungwon nodded at me, making me look up at him in confusion, "I wouldn't have to go around for 16 months with the thought of possibly dying or drag you into this."
"Shut up will you?" I complained at him, making him glance down at me, "I'm sick of hearing about you dragging me into this. We just need to pull ourselves together and-"
I paused in my tracks as I stared straight ahead making Jungwon look forward as well before frowning down at me.
"What?" he questioned in confusion, "what is it?"
"Do you smell that too?" I questioned making him frown down at me, "that's food."
"Ji, I don't thi-"
I didn't give him a chance to finish before I began running down the hallway, letting my hand slip out of his before he chased after me and I had flung a door open, from which I knew I had been able to smell the food from.
"Ji, focus," Jungwon turned my head to look at him and snapped his fingers in front of my face.
"What?" I questioned in confusion.
"Don't you dare run off like that again," he sternly stated, making me just hum as I nodded at him, "and don't open a door just like that."
"Yeah, yeah," I waved him off before continuing into the kitchen-like space in front of us.
