Chapter 22

As I make my way to my college calculus class - yeah, they actually offer the dual enrollment classes here. Thank goodness...because I was getting bored. Of course, this is my only class without any members of my pack - which I don't really know how I feel about that particular fact. So many thoughts...anyways, as I enter the room I find two very interesting people taking the two chairs around where mine usually is over in the back corner of the room.

Taking a moment to decide if I want to find another spot I sigh, making my way over. As soon as I set my bag on my desk I expect them to pounce but, to my surprise, nothing happens. Breathing deep I take my seat. The silence and tension is palpable around the three of us.

"So...?" I finally break the silence after what feels like forever.

"Hmm?" Raif hums, not even turning to face me as I sense more than see Colin turn toward me.

"What's up?" I ask, giving each of them a look and hoping they'll get to it already.

"With?" Raif asks, sounding confused as he finally turns to face me.

"Don't play games." I growl, showing just how tired I really am. "Why have you two suddenly moved right next to me? Did something happen? Did you-?"

"No, we didn't find him...I'm sorry." Colin says, scrunching his nose uncomfortably as I see how much he doesn't want that to be the answer. "But there is something we'd like to warn you about."

"Okay." I answer slowly, raising an eyebrow as I try to think of something that could make this entire situation any worse.

"Colin." Raif's warning tone isn't lost on me - I still can't understand why he's so devoted to Fenris...I mean, sure, the guy helped him out once.

"She deserves to know after all she's done for us." Colin snaps, red eyes flashing dangerously at his brother.

What the hell is going on? Colin never gets angry...especially towards his twin. I glance between the two as they continue their staring contest as they wait for the other to back off. It's like an awkward, yet very intense, stand off. What did I miss?

"Guys, the rest of the class is going to be here soon. What should I know?" I ask glancing at the door as I struggle to keep my wolf from surfacing - it gets harder to keep her down at each hour's pass.

"Fine." Raif huffs - did I make him mad within the last hour or something? "Tell her Colin."

"Fenris is planning to make an appearance very soon. In fact, he's leaning toward Thursday next week." Colin tells me, fumbling with the zipper on his bag. "We aren't exactly allowed to tell you where or when though."

"You gonna tell her why though?" Raif grumbles, crossing his arms as he leans back into his chair.

"He thinks we're getting too close to you. He liked it at first - something about being friends could make your transition to the pack easier - but now he's concerned that one of us might try to keep you for ourselves." Colin sighs, shaking his head at how ludicrous it sounds.

"Anyways, he'll kill us if we give you any real information...and without a second thought." Raif says bluntly, straight to the point that one is. "You see, we only tell him the obvious things about you. You guys train, you joined the track team, you chat, have parties, eat excessively, and occasionally meet at the old house - that's a huge deathtrap, literally. What we don't tell him is what you talk about, that human pet you've just turned, where you actually live, or the plans yo have to take him down. I know I'm an ass, but this is survival now."

"Raif!" Colin glares at his brother before looking at me again. "Look, what my brother - obviously not the better half - means to say is that we aren't exactly good. But we're not all bad either. We do what we need to in order to survive. At this point, most of it has been pretty terrible things but we're working on it. It's a long, hard road that we see because of you. Thank you for that."
