My Blood Moon

Chapter 1

As soon as I wake up I can feel the energy buzzing through the air as I stretch my muscles to wake them faster. Yawning I rub my eyes as I sit up and maneuver myself out of bed, noticing how much better I feel. I'm no longer sore from the hunter attack...maybe my body has finally gone back to its original strength? Unfortunately, something also feels a bit off.

I don't have time to finish the thought when my foot hits something large on the floor and I plummet face-forward on the wooden floor. Just before my face has an awkward make out sessions with the ground my hands fly up, successfully saving my nose.

Groaning catches my ears and I look over to see Jasynn staring wide eyed at the ceiling, trying to figure out what just happened. "Oh my god! Are you okay?!"

I roll off him and onto my back, rubbing my hands down my face with a grunt. "I'm fine, just forgot you were there...it's to early for this weirdness."

He chuckles under his breath and moves to where we're lying side by side. "Can I tell you something?"

"As long as it has nothing to do with how ridiculous I look or that I smell like morning, I'll kill you." I say, smiling to let him see my joke.

We both chuckle as he shakes his head. "No, it's nothing like that."

I bite my lip and watch him carefully as I practically watch the wheels turning in his eyes as he searches for what to say. Maybe he's trying to did out how to say it. I don't know what it is, but it looks important and that alone makes me nervous.

"Beks, you mean a lot to me...over these past few months you've become a central part of my life. I feel like I've known you as long, if not longer, than even Rhys." He takes a deep breath as he looks over at me, staring me right in the eyes. "I love you so much - you've become my sister and best friend in such a short time. You, Rhys, and my mom are the three most important people in my life - influentially. Anna means something else to me...but she's not what I need to tell you."

"Okay." I say with a nod as I turn onto my side to see him better.

Taking a deep breath he says, "I can't see you get hurt. You're my family...just the thought of you being in a dangerous situation sets my heart into a gear that I didn't even know existed. It terrifies and infuriates me to think you could get hurt tonight...that we could even lose you. I-I think about all those things and...and I can't even fathom how heart-breaking it'll be for Derreck. Never think for a second that all of us won't lay our lives down for you. Because we all have a special place for you and Derreck...well, he can be an ass sometimes, but he loves you - even more so now that you've found out you're mates."

I can't help but cry as silent tears fall down his cheek and I try to smile at him as I reach over to wipe the droplets from his face. "Hey, I feel the same - you're my brother, Jase. You and Rhys and Mel have done so much for me - I mean you took me in and gave me a real home. You even put up with Derreck when we all know he's not really social. Thank you...but I'm not missing this fight. I need to be there to keep all of you safe because we aren't just fighting for this land or what will happen to me - we're here to take a stand. And I'd never forgive myself if any of you got hurt while I was cowering at home."

"Yeah, I know what you mean...and I won't ask you to stay somewhere away from the fight, I just want you to know I've got your back." He says with a wide smile.

"And I have yours." I say, unable to resist his infectious grin as I return it.

"Now, go brush your teeth or something because whew! That's strong!" He says as he fans the air in front of his face as though the smell is completely horrible.

I shove him with a laugh as I sit up to head toward the bathroom. "What did I tell you about commenting on my morning hygiene?!"

"You said not to...but, as a brother and someone best friend, I have to be honest." He sits up and twists his face in a joking way.

"Fine, I'll take that when you put it that way...but, I will have to make you pay for the statement sometime. But when is going to be your punishment - because I'm gonna make you wait." I say, making sure to add my evil smirk at the end. "True torture."

"You got that right!" He says with a laugh as I retreat to the bathroom.

I laugh as I enter the restroom, unable to get our conversation out of my head. Knowing how much he cares and is there for me is the most touching thing for me...I never thought I could find people outside of Derreck that I cared for. But this town, a place I've hated for so ling, is the only place I feel connected to anyone. I have a family, a pack, a life worth living. And more importantly, people to fight for.

The floaty feeling quickly drops as I look into the mirror. Taking in the glow of my eyes I feel for the first time how much it would hurt me to lose these guys. The molten silver with violet flecks that seem to flow and move like a river stare at me as my heart falls down to my butt as the idea settles in me.

Right now, my focus is slowly turning to how everything is about to change...and I'm starting to know why. Depending on how this goes, we could be turning these innocent guys into killers - and they're doing this for me.

I hate that feeling.

If you all look, on the side is a picture of Derreck with his glowing red eyes ;) We've slowly grown more and more attached to Derreck throughout this series and - small disclaimer here - even though he had been originally based on the TV show Teen Wolf, he's become a much different character than that Dereck Hale. This wonderful male specimen has stolen our hearts with his sarcastic ways that mask just how much he loves those closest to him. Even though he practically oozes power and strength, he's slowly shown his caring, softer side the more he exposes himself to people and all the moments between him and Bekah.

Anyone can tell me what he told Bekah when he first took her to Old Man Henri before their return to Albequerqe gets a shout out!
