Chapter 2
Monday August 14th
Mallory's POV
I was determined to not be the cliché character who is late to the first day of a new job or opportunity. That's why I was up bright and early before the time I was supposed to arrive at the hospital. For today, my resident class is supposed to arrive for 8 and it's currently 5:30 in the morning. I sat up tiredly, even though I spent all day yesterday recovering from my massive hangover.
I felt like death yesterday, and woke up to a million texts from Veronica and Eli making sure I was alive. Right when I was about to text them back and let them know the man didn't kidnap me or anything, Veronica was banging on my car window.
After that, I slept for the majority of the day.
I shut off the alarm on my phone and saw 2 messages, one from Veronica, and one from my older brother Noah.
From Noah:
Good luck today!
From Ronnie:
Door is unlocked whenever <3
I wrote quick messages back to the two of them, and let Veronica know I would be stopping by soon. Eli and Veronica are gracious enough to let me use their shower/bathroom whenever I need. I appreciate them both so much.
I had a quick snack and then started the engine to drive to my best friends apartment. With traffic in the city, I never knew how long it would take me to get somewhere, so might as well leave early. It was a little after 6 when I entered their apartment, the two of them at their bar stools and enjoying breakfast together.
"Morning!" Veronica chirped. "We made you a plate"
I smiled warmly. "Thank you"
"Big day, yeah?" Eli greeted me. "Are you nervous?"
"A little bit" I admitted. Now that it's here, my nerves are back in full swing. I joined them at the barstools, seeing the breakfast that they prepared for me. French toast, bacon, eggs, and some fruit. It looked delicious. "This looks great, thank you"
"Had to make sure you had something special for your first day" Veronica smiled, chowing down on her French toast.
If I don't have anything else, I do have the two greatest people in the world as my best friends.
"Soo" Veronica sing songed. "Tell me all about the other night!"
I dived into my plate of food. "There's nothing to tell"
Veronica scoffed. "I knew you were going to say that"
The truth is, I did enjoy my time with Harry the other night, I think that much is evident. But it really isn't that serious in my opinion. We met, we drank, we hooked up, and we went home. There's no great love story following like Veronica wants there to be. Hell, I didn't even get the guy's phone number. He's just another stranger in this big city.
"I'm never going to see him again" I shot down her fairytale without wanting to. I just don't want her to keep getting her hopes up when love like hers isn't for me. "I didn't get his number"
"You were there til 3 in the morning and you didn't even get his number?" Eli chimed in with shock.
"Seems to me there wasn't a lot of talking" Veronica teased.
"We talked, but" I corrected with a shrug. "There was also no talking"
Her hands flew to her mouth with a gasp. "Look at you Mallory!"
I momentarily thought back to the other night. How he had me pressed against the wall, the feeling of his hands roaming all over my body, the sensations he was making me feel as he thrusted into me.
