Luke's pov

I was having my breakfast, uninterested. The plate before me was full of vegetables, which I had to admit, did not stimulate my taste buds.

Why all these veggies? I was longing for something a bit more savory and fulfilling. But my mumma had insisted, claiming that this breakfast was specially made to help me regain my health soon.

Should I cry?

I felt my appetite diminishing with each bite of tasteless vegetables.

"How are you feeling today, dear? Is your injury bothering you?" She asked, smiling.

I sighed, picking at my breakfast. "Yeah, it hurts a bit but I'm okay."

She nodded then asked with a concerned look, "Tell me, love. How did you survive there?"

"It was horrible! I tried to keep myself composed the whole time but when Pete got hurt, I was helpless. It was unbearable."

She offered a comforting hand on my cheek. "It's hard to see your dearest hurt," Her voice filled with empathy. "But you tried your best."

"Yeah!" I nodded.

She wrapped me in a gentle embrace. "Remember, all this is from the past," she whispered, her voice soothing. "Bad memories will pass. Pete and you are home now, safe."

"We are! How did you manage?" I asked her back.

"It was hard! I was hella scared. I just wanted you back no matter what." She pulled away and kissed me, her lips on my forehead lingered for a while till I felt a warm drop falling on my cheek.

"Mumma?" I called out, worried.

"I'm okay!" She sat back, smiling as she wiped her tears.

"I love you." I grabbed her hand and kissed it.

"I love you too."

The ordeal is behind us, now and we can move forward.

Finishing my meal, I put the tray away, and Mom handed me my medication with a cup of water.

"Here are your meds, sweetheart."

"Thank you mumma!" I took them and she took the tray out and left the room.

Not even 15 minutes had passed when the door swung open, startling me. I turned to see my Heaven walking in.

The moment our eyes met, a radiant smile spread across my face, and genuine happiness washed over me.

"Babe!"

"Sweetheart!" I smiled widely like a fool.

She leaned closer to me and we shared a sweet kiss.

Evie asked as she sat next to me, "I missed you. How are you feeling?"

"Better now that you're here. And I've missed you too." I wrapped my hands around her and buriedy face into her chest.

She rubbed my back and kissed my hair. "Aww, Luke!"

We stayed in that comforting embrace for a moment, relishing the closeness before breaking apart to talk.

Evie, reaching into her backpack. "I brought something for you."

Curiosity flickered in my eyes as she pulled out a stack of papers.

"These are my notes and recaps for all the lectures you missed. Thought it might help you catch up."

I took the papers, feeling a mix of gratitude and affection. "You went through all this trouble for me?"
