Marie watched the scene unfold in front of her, and her eyes widened when she saw Nancy. So when the car came to a stop, and they all got out, Nancy looked to see her group of friends.
Nancy looked upset, really upset. So when Marie began to walk away from the car and to her friend, Steve was calling after her.
"Marie!" His voice didn't matter to her in this moment, and she wanted to just get to Nancy. She pushed through the crowd that had already gathered, but then she glance at the road behind Nancy, and she could see the mangled body of Fred.
Marie's eyes widened, and she felt the bile coming up the back of her throat. But she pushed it back down and walked right up to the police tape, and Nancy glanced back at her.
"Nancy!" Marie called out for her friend, and Callahan and Powell both turned around. Powell didn't look to happy to see Marie, but she knew it probably had to do with the fact that she was dating a murder suspect.
"Ms. Henderson, you can't be here." Callahan says to her, and she glares at him.
"The hell I can't, you're questioning her without an adult present, what kind of cop are you? Now let her go, she's obviously answered all your damn questions." Marie was trying to sound like a concerned friend, and she knew she was doing a good job when Powell let Nancy go with her.
"Marie, this is-" Marie cuts her off, and Nancy just stares at her friend.
"Wait until we're away from the police to finish that sentence." Marie says, and they make their way back to Steve's car. Marie realized they weren't all going to fit in the car.
"Nancy, you're going to have to sit on my lap." Was all she said when she got in, and Nancy didn't hesitate to sit down on her lap.
"Now, where's your car?" Marie asks her, and she looks down at her.
"Max's front yard."
-
"You're saying that this thing that killed Fred and Chrissy, it's from the Upside Down?" Nancy asked, and Marie nodded her head.
They were sat at a picnic table across the street from Max's trailer, and Steve was sat on Marie's right side and Dustin was on her left, but something was bothering her again.
She kept picturing Fred's body on the ground with how mangled it was, it reminded her so much of what Billy looked like when he died the year prior.
"If the shoe fits." Dustin says, and Marie snaps back into the conversation. But she feels Steve place his hand on her knee, and she looks over at him.
They were having a silent conversation with one another as the others talk about what they were dealing with, and Marie knew she wasn't alone in this. She had him for the first time, she had Steve next to her when they were dealing with something like this.
"No, Fred and Chrissy don't make sense. I mean why them?" Nancy asks, and Steve and Marie were locked back into the cconversation now.
"Maybe they were just in the wrong place."
"Well they were both at the game." Robin says, and Marie looks up at her.
"So was I, Nancy, Steve and yourself. So are any of us next?" Marie says, and she hated saying it.
"And near the trailer park." Nancy says, and Steve looked around uneasy.
"We're at the trailer park. Uh, should we not be here?" He says, and Marie pushed his shoulder with her own, and placed her hand on top of his.
"There is something about this place. Fred started acting weird the second we got here." Nancy says, and Marie cocked her eyebrow.
"Acting weird as in..?" Robin asks her, and Nancy looks at her.
