Episode 8

Entering the Upside Down should've been terrifying, but instead, a strange calm washed over me. Maybe it was knowing that one way or another, this nightmare was coming to an end.

I just prayed that when it was over, we'd all still be alive.

The truck stopped outside the lab and Murray opened the back with a smile on his face. "Alright, lab rats, let's scurry up. An entire dimension's about to come crashing down on our heads."

Hopper jumped out first and Kali followed. Eleven paused beside Mike as the couple shared some words and even a hug before she followed. 

The door slammed shut again and we continued our way to WSQK.

We pulled up to the radio station and climbed out of the truck. I looked up at the very tall structure we had to climb and my stomach began to twist.

"No sign of an evil moving planet." Lucas commented.

"Well, that's good. 'Cause this is gonna take some time." Jonathan replied before giving direction to us. "Alright, we should split up. Use both ladders. Don't rush. Pace yourselves. There are platforms along the way, so use them to rest. Alright. Let's do this."

Steve went up first in protector mode and I nudged Dustin ahead of me. I waited until he started climbing before I grabbed onto the cold metal rungs.

I made the mistake of glancing down once.

Yeah, never doing that again.

I tried not to think about how high we were and instead just focused on climbing.

Once we finally made it to the top, Dustin shuffled aside so Steve could grab my hand and pull me up the last bit of the way.

I let out a breath. "My legs already hurt."

"Well, when's the last time you climbed a ladder?" He asked.

"The only time I've ever climbed a ladder was to look inside that vent in Scoops. Oh, wait. I also climbed that ladder to the top of the elevator after my brother almost got us killed by Russians." I smiled.

"Totally my fault." Dustin called from the side as he overheard our conversation and looked out into the distance. "It's pretty damn spectacular."

"It's almost too bad we have to blow it all up." Lucas sighed.

I followed their gaze...bad idea.

Yes, it was pretty. The sky was a deep blue and flashing red bolts of lightning lit up the dark sky. 

Also, we were thousands of feet in the air.

My stomach twisted again and I instantly latched onto Steve's arm. "I definitely have a fear of heights. Arachnophobia." 

"That's not the right one." Dustin replied, not even sparing me a glance.

"Shut the hell up, Dustin. Let me have this one." I closed my eyes as I tried to shove the nausea away.

"Mother of God." Dustin whispered.

I opened my eyes and saw him looking above. I tilted my head back and saw the theories were correct. The other world loomed above us, inching closer and closer as the sky closed in.

We just had to hope that the tip of the needle would pierce the gate to this 'other world', but the more I stared...the more it looked wrong.

It was off center.

"No, no, no, guys. It's not lining up." Lucas was the one to speak up.

"What do you mean it's not lining up?" Steve questioned.
