Episode 3

By morning, we returned to the Squawk and exited the car to stare ahead.

"It looks like Robin sent up the Bat-Signal." Dustin said as Nancy's car was speed driving back to the building.

Nancy, Mike and Lucas returned and Jonathan ran forward to check on Nancy.

Mike and Lucas walked over to Dustin and inspected his bruised face.

"Holy shit." Mike whispered.

"Yep." Dustin nodded. "Bike crash. Flew headfirst into a light post."

Steve and I tilted our heads as my brother lied to his friends.

"Look, I'm sorry about missing the crawl, about everything." Dustin apologized as I moved over to Nancy.

"Hey." I began with a hug.

Nancy held on tight and I rubbed her back. "I'm so scared."

"I've got you." When we pulled back, I furrowed my eyebrows at her outfit. "Are you wearing a nurse's uniform?"

"Long story." Nancy shrugged.

"Hey, this isn't a social call, kiddos." Robin exited the building to scold us. "Let's go."

"You heard the bird." I ushered everyone inside.

Will explained that he believes some kid named Derek Turnbow was gonna be Vecna's next target, as Holly was his first.

"Derek? Derek Turnbow?" Steve repeated as he sat on one of the tables. "As in the Turnbow family? Like Turnbow Realty?"

"The one and only." Robin nodded.

"Whole family's a menace." Lucas added.

"How can you be sure?" Nancy asked. "Sure that Derek's the next target?"

"Because I saw. I've learned that when I'm close enough to the hive mind, I can tap into it, into Vecna's mind. I can see who he's targeting. The first time it happened, I saw through Holly's eyes the same day she was taken. And this morning, it happened again. Only this time, I wasn't Holly. I was someone else. I was Derek Turnbow. I'm positive." Will explained.

"Hold on. I'm a little lost." Steve closed his eyes.

"Shocking." Dustin commented from beside me and since I was between the boys, I nudged Dustin with my foot.

"Were you seeing through the eyes of...of Vecna or of Derek?" Steve asked.

"Both." Will answered. "I-I was Vecna, but inside Derek's mind."

"Vecna's like a psycho serial killer. He stalks his victims, but he does it by invading their minds." Robin explained.

"Like he did to Max." I added. "And Chrissy...Fred and Patrick."

"Yeah, but the way he's doing it this time is different. We did some digging at the hospital. It turns out that before he took Holly, Vecna...stalked her, but...he didn't appear as Vecna. He appeared as Henry. As a friend." Nancy continued.

"He's just toying with them, but why? Why does he want Holly and Derek? He already destroyed our town square." I scoffed.

Mike jumped in. "We think he was trying to earn her trust. Now, why he went to all that trouble, we don't know. But I highly doubt his long-term goal is friendship."

"Whatever it is, whatever he's planning, we have to stop him." Will continued. "And we have to save Derek."

"Game plan time, children." I stood. "To the basement we go."
