"So, what do you want to talk about?" I ask, sitting down at a booth with an iced latte. "And why did we have to wait until we weren't with DK?" I wink at her.
She rolls her eyes. "Okay, I'll stop bugging you about Mingyu. Now stop with this." She gestures to my teasing smile.
"It's too late. I'm not going to stop this."
"Great," Jisoo sighs. "But it's not that. I wanted to talk about the party, and I didn't want to do it around Seventeen."
"Ha! There was a motive."
"This isn't a motive."
"You wanted to leave the house so they didn't hear us."
"That hardly counts as an ulterior motive."
"Anyways, what about it?" I wonder if she heard about Mingyu killing someone, or Bambam nearly slitting my throat, or one of the other disturbing things I found out last night. Maybe she had a similar experience?
"I wanted to know what happened with you and Mingyu." Jisoo raises an eye. "I felt like something was off when you found me and Dino at the party."
"We just found the USB and got caught." I shrug, trying to play it off like nothing, even with my foot nervously tapping. It would only needlessly worry her if I told her everything. "After that, we got out and returned to find you guys."
"Don't like to me."
"I'm not."
Jisoo shakes her head. "You aren't a good liar, Y/N. You always shrug and talk too fast. You looked disturbed last night while trying to get to me."
"I was just worried about you," I huff. "You stopped responding, and I was scared something had happened to you."
Crossing her arms, Jisoo leans back into the cushion. "It was more than that."
"How do you know that?" I ask, my face heating up in anger.
Jisoo appears to be rattled by my irritation. "Because we've lived together for four years."
I look away from her, sipping from my latte to avoid talking for a few more seconds.
"You don't have to tell me, but you seem uneasy," she comments.
Am I that easy to read?
"I may worry too much, but I want to keep you safe. You know that, right?"
"Yeah," I mumble, looking back at her. Her eyes are focused on her cup.
"You're your own person and can make your own decisions." Jisoo wears a sad smile. "No matter how bad they are," she lightly cringes. "Strangely, it's kinda comforting that you used to be a thief. It makes me feel like you know what you're doing."
"Oh, thanks?" I say, unsure how to respond.
Jisoo laughs. "You're welcome." She reaches out her hand and places it on top of mine. Her hand is warm. "But if something bothers you, I want you to tell me. You've become more distant since we moved into Seventeen's."
The combination of Mingyu, Minghao reentering my life, and everything Seventeen has brought distracted me. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be; I've been more distant, too."
My eyes search the café. Nobody is nearby. "Mingyu shot someone last night," I whisper.
Jisoo's eyes expand, and she gasps. "What!?!"
"Yeah. I didn't realize they had-" I stop the sentence short, but Jisoo knows what I mean.
"I didn't either. But I guess it makes sense."
