✿》6 - Strawberries《✿

A couple of days ago I talked with everyone about getting strawberries and today is that day. It is a beautiful but sweltering day outside and there isn't a cloud in the sky. Everyone is sitting around the house sweating because it is so hot outside. I pick up a bucket and put a book in the bucket so I can spend some alone time in the woods.

"I'm leaving to go pick strawberries, is there anything else that we need while I'm in the woods?" I ask everyone

"Could you check how close the katniss plants are to being ready? And also pick some more blackberries too?" Barb Azure asks

"Yeah I can. Is it ok if I put them in the same bucket?" I ask Barb Azure

"Yeah that's fine we can organize them when you get back" Barb Azure says

"Ok, well I'll see you in a couple of hours" I say walking out the door and walking towards the woods

There is a Katniss patch near the lake but there is also a Katniss patch closer to us and it is kinda near where the strawberries are which is good. I won't have to do as much walking. I like walking by myself it gives me time to think about everything without anyone talking to me and I get to speak to myself out loud which is super nice also. I walk past the rock and tree that Lucy Gray usually plays her guitar on. I can almost picture her and hear her voice on the rock and I can see myself sitting there looking at her and listening to all of her songs that she has come up with. Seeing the rock makes me sad so I walk past it quickly. The Hunger Games officially started as of yesterday and now is when I am really scared. I am scared that my sister will never come back and I will never see her ever again and I don't want that to happen. We were supposed to protect each other until we couldn't anymore. Even though I couldn't get reaped this year. It is my last year before I do get put into the names. I'm scared for next year. What if I get reaped? What if I die? That scares me. Mayor Lipp already hates us I wouldn't be surprised if I get picked next year for the reaping. I probably won't but what if I do that will be awful.

By the time I stop overthinking I have made it to the patch of Katniss. I pull up one of the flowers and I look at the roots. It's not even close to being ready to eat yet. We will probably have to give it another month or so before we can start eating the roots. That's not a good thing because we could really start using these right about now. Since we aren't performing at the hob we have really been struggling more than usual to get food so most of the time meals consist of a single piece of bread and some goats milk from Shamus and sometimes berries. Berries have been more usual now since it is something we can get from the woods easily since they are in season.

I walk away from the Katniss patch and I walk towards where the strawberries should be. There are usually a lot of strawberries around this one spot in the woods and I know exactly how to get to that one spot in the woods. I keep walking until I find the strawberries. I take my book out of my bucket and I start to pick the strawberries. Since I don't have anyone else with me it might take a little time before I have enough strawberries to move on and pick some blackberries.

After about an hour and a half the bucket is full with strawberries so I pick up the bucket and my book and I start walking towards where the blackberry bushes are. The sun is coming through the trees a little but being in the woods is giving me shade and it isn't as hot here as it is in the open. Once I get to the blackberry bushes I start to pick them too. This time it takes me a bit longer since I am getting bored of picking berries. Usually when I come to pick berries with Maude Ivory or CC we make it a game of how fast we can pick the berries, but right now I am picking them by myself and it is starting to get boring and I don't want to do it anymore. I just want to sit against a nearby tree and read my book. Even though I have read this book before I want to read it again. Tam Amber says next time we have extra to take to the hob we can get a new book for me since last time I went to the hob I wasn't able to get a new book. I decide to start and sing a song to pass time
