I sit in the back waiting for the performance at the hob to begin. We are performing at the hob for the first time since Lucy Gray came back, and everyone is happy to be back to some sort of routine again.
I read my book as The Covey tune their instruments. I don't perform because it's too loud for me and I like watching them perform anyways.
"Briar Rose you should go out to the front soon" Lucy Gray says from across the room
"How long?" I ask
"Like five minutes" Lucy Gray says
I nod and close my book marking where I am in the book and I get up and go u[ to Lucy Gray giving her a hug before I go to the door.
"Briar Rose?" Lucy Gray says
"Yeah?" I say
"If you get overwhelmed come back here ok?" Lucy Gray says
I nod "ok" I say
I walk out the door and around to the door to the hob and I sit in a seat at the back of the hob and opening my book to read. After a little bit of reading I see CC walk out and put a microphone and box carton on the ground for Maude Ivory and he plugs in the microphone going back past the blanket to the back. Once he goes back into the back room and everyone starts clapping in a rhythmic way ready for the music to start which is already making me overwhelmed but I want to see them perform for everyone and that is what is important to me.
After a little bit Maude Ivory walks out in her pink dress and she gives a curtesy to everyone before she stood on the box in front of the microphone and she waves at everyone. If I was that social everything would be great I would be able to perform with everyone but of course I have to be weird and performing is so overwhelming that I have meltdowns after them.
"Hey, everybody, thanks for coming out tonight! Is it hot enough for everyone?" Maude Ivory asks into the microphone
"Well we're planning on heating things up a sight more. My name's Maude Ivory, and I'm pleased to introduce the Covey!" Maude Ivory says
Everyone starts clapping at what Maude Ivory says and Maude Ivory stands there smiling waiting for everyone to quiet down a little so she can introduce everyone
"On mandolin, Tam Amber" Maude Ivory says
Out walks Tam Amber playing his mandolin. He stands next to Maude Ivory. His fingers as fast as lightning. Then next CC walks out with his fiddle
"That's Clerk Carmine on fiddle" Maude Ivory says to the audience
CC walks across the stage playing his fiddle and stands on stage
"And Barb Azure on bass" Maude Ivory says
Barb Azure lugs her bass across stage and gives the audience a shy wave before going to stand next to everyone else
"And now, fresh from her engagement in the Capitol, the one and the only Lucy Gray Baird" Maude Ivory says
Lucy Gray walks out and takes a spin on stage with her guitar. Maude Ivory gets off the box and CC moves the box back so Lucy Gray can stand in front of the microphone
"Hey there, District Twelve, did you miss me?" Lucy Gray says with a huge smile on her face looking out at the audience
The audience cheers loudly at what she says and I have the urge to cover my ears but I don't
"I bet you never expected to lay eyes on me again, and that goes both ways. But I'm back. I sure am back." Lucy grays says
Someone walks up to the front offering Lucy Gray a half full bottle of liquor
