(Y/n) padded down the stairs to the living room, but paused when she noticed something was missing. "[Where's my summoning book?]" She set down the books in her hands on the end table beside the armchair, looking under it as well as on the couch for the book she knew she left on the table after summoning Dream for Theo. That book contained the ritual to summon a demon—the book she was going to hold just in case she forgot the words to the ritual while she was chanting.

Dream appeared at the top of the landing overlooking the living room between the two staircases, in his hands her blade dipped in the jar of holy water. He held it firmly but without much care despite how easily holy water could splash on him, his gaze focused on the girl down below. "Is something wrong, summoner?"

"You remember the book I was holding when I first summoned you?" she asked as she practically turned the living room inside out trying to find this book. "I set it right here on the end table, but it's not here anymore."

"It was there last night," Dream said, walking down the stairs slowly. She could see his mental image of the living room last night—where he initially stayed while (Y/n) slept to give her the privacy she requested—and the summoning book was resting on the end table.

"So in the time since you were here, it's gone?" She slowly looked up at the Guardian as he stopped beside her. They both thought the same thing at the same time: Fell took it. "He probably snatched it after you teleported away to save me last night." She let out an annoyed huff, crossing her arms.

"If that book allows you to summon Demon Kings, I shudder to think of how Waylon will make use of it." The graveness of his tone reflected the unease of his soul, but he didn't feel the girl's mood drop at the revelation. When his eyelights flickered down to her, he found her smirking.

"You think that's why they took it?" She scoffed, putting her hands on her hips. "They're in for a treat then."

"What are you saying?" Dream asked slowly, studying her closely as he tried to understand the odd terminology.

(Y/n) smirked up at him with a glint in her eye. "That was just a regular summoning book to summon a Renegade demon."

His sockets widened. "But you summoned me with it."

"There's a couple modifications to the same ritual to summon a King as opposed to a Renegade demon." She knew the ritual by heart, and such minor changes were easy to make without the need for the specific King ritual. "The book to summon a Demon King was burnt to ash on the night..." She trailed off, nearly getting swept up in a memory of that horrible night before she shook it off quickly. "Those books are extremely rare and that was the only one we had."

"Do you happen to possess another summoning book for Renegade demons?" Dream frowned as (Y/n) shook her head. Even though Waylon didn't get his hands on a King book, that still left them without a summoning book at all. But again there was no dip in the summoner's mood.

"I have the ritual memorized." His sockets widened as she carefully took the knife and jar from his hands, setting it down on the end table before opening her books up to flip through.

"Memory, the one thing they cannot take from you," Dream whispered to himself. "That is very clever foresight, bellator!" His eyelights shone brightly as he gazed down at her with newfound respect.

She awkwardly shifted under it, not entirely sure how to respond. "[I had it memorized before this whole Waylon situation even happened.]" She ran her finger down the compendium of all the different demon types, looking for the universe Dream came from. "[It wasn't intentional, I just knew it that well.]" She'd heard the ritual so many times from her father as well as read it multiple times over in preparation for her own summoning days that it was impossible not to know it by heart.
