Dream stood with his hands behind his back, watching Swap and Slash duel from his position outside the arena. They were in the living room where (Y/n) had created a wall of magic signaled by a chalk outline on the dark wood floor, inside of which all magic would be contained. It was an arena that both demons were fighting inside, and any stray blasts from a Gaster Blaster or bone attack would be halted by the magic wall, ensuring the house and any furniture around it wouldn't get caught in the crossfire. There was more space outside in the yard, but it wasn't as safe and winter had blown in, decorating the ground with snow to make it both slippery and cold. (Y/n) didn't need the added attention—even if the house was surrounded by woods—and it allowed the demons to practice without the hassle of having to be stealthy. Error was also kind enough to use his strings to pull the furniture to the edge of the room to make more space so the arena took up the majority of the living room.

Dream, Ink, and Outer watched the fight, studying each demon's moves. Ink's gaze tended to wander, but the goal was to help each of them get a read on their fellow demon's attack style. Dream's logic was it would allow them to work better as a unit, and knowing how one of them fought would allow them to fight together more synchronously. They'd been practicing fighting with each other for what felt like weeks but they were finally getting the hang of it. Slash was able to predict Swap's attacks before they came, and Swap was able to counter the counterattack he knew was coming.

"Well done!" Dream's voice broke their concentration, and they both looked up. They were panting as they made their bones and Gaster Blasters disappear, setting their hands on their knees like they completed an Olympic sprint, but Dream's praise filled them with pride. "Ink, Outer, do you think you are ready?" Dream turned to the demons beside him, and Ink tilted his head as Outer nodded hesitantly.

It took a second for it to click, then Ink snapped his fingers and pointed at Dream. "Oh, you mean for the team-up?" Dream nodded. "Who am I with again?"

"You are with Slash, Outer is with Swap." Dream pointed to each demon as he said their name, then glanced back towards the kitchen. The living room led directly to the kitchen, where Error and (Y/n) were formulating the next step of their plan. They stood nearly shoulder to shoulder at the kitchen table as they talked, pointing to different pieces of paper on the table entailing their strategy. Error made a snide comment, making (Y/n) laugh. Dream didn't realize he was smiling at the sound, but it dropped when her hand brushed against Error's The touch didn't produce the typical hostile reaction—clearly Error'd gotten familiar with the girl.

Dream cleared his throat to get their attention. "Would you care to watch the show, bellator?" he asked after they both looked up. Error rolled his eyelights as (Y/n) shook her head and walked over, breaking the line of chalk on the floor so Ink and Outer could step inside. Since the demons themselves were made of magic less powerful than the human spell, they couldn't pass over the line unless it was broken—just like the lines of the summoning circle.

She redrew the line on the floor with chalk before glancing at Dream, using her head to gesture towards the boys. "How are they doing?"

"Very well." There was almost pride in Dream's voice as he gazed down at his demons. With him being a Demon King and thus the most powerful demon, it only made sense he took the role as leader of the team, but it suited him. He was rather akin to a coach or father figure with how he both led and cared for them, and while he still kept his optimistic outlook on their chances, he didn't let it fool him into thinking they were ready before they were this time—he wasn't going to make that mistake again. Waylon still wanted them dead, no doubt, but the rich man was taking his time to come after them, like both sides were recuperating and gearing up before the next round. (Y/n) just hoped they'd be ready this time.
