"I'm going to force the truth out of him when I see him again," (Y/n) muttered zealously, earning a quiet chuckle from Dream.
"Error has always harbored many secrets so I wish you luck."
"You don't think I can do it?" She looked up at her Guardian as he smiled softly down at her.
"Being known is scary, and he does not like to be scared."
She faced him with a frown and he turned to wrap both arms loosely around her waist. "When were you going to tell me you were planning on going home?" She rested her hands on his arms, squeezing them lightly.
He let out a quiet sigh. "I wish to return home to assure my demons can make the adjustment." A King should watch over his subjects, and while they weren't his minions, he still cared for them deeply and wanted to personally make sure they adjusted back to their world without issue.
"How long will that take?" Nerves creeped into (Y/n)'s tone, and his thumbs rubbed circles into her back, his golden eyelights warm despite the topic.
"A few months, at most." Her eyes widened, and at the panic in them, he leaned down to rest his forehead against hers. "We will still be in contact, bellator. Our mental link should reach that far."
"You're sure you're not leaving me?" She would've been more embarrassed about the tremor in her voice if Dream wasn't the understanding type. His gaze remained sweet as he took her hand and stepped back, pulling her with him as he led her towards the lone bedroom to get away from the other demons.
"Inform us when Waylon is ready," Dream said to G as they passed, who nodded.
G's gaze lingered on the pair as they headed towards the bedroom, and he let out a teasing, "Try not to have too much fun with her, eh Dream?" (Y/n)'s face turned bright red as Dream simply laughed off the joke—though his cheekbones were dusted a light gold.
"[I would not take you in such a public place,]" Dream thought, turning (Y/n) all the more flustered as he shut the door behind them. The room was bland, containing only a king-sized bed, nightstand table, and a chair off in the corner, and he led her to the bed, lying down on it and pulling her into his arms. She was against his left side, his arm around her waist to hold her, and she rested her hand on his chest as she laid her head on his shoulder. His other hand grabbed the blankets to throw over them, getting situated and checking to make sure she was comfortable before addressing her previous concern. "Why do you assume I would leave you?"
"That was the plan from the beginning, for all of you to return to your world when I was safe," (Y/n) mumbled into his chest, keeping her gaze down to avoid seeing his expression. His right hand lightly grabbed her chin, forcing her head up to meet his gaze. His golden eyelights were soft and loving—like they always were when they looked at her—and she felt her worries ease with his positive aura.
"I would never abandon my mate." His gaze fell to her lips as his thumb brushed across her bottom lip. "I may not have my whole life to spend with you, but I do not wish to waste the time I have been given."
"My short lifespan used to be a reason you didn't want to be with me." Her eyes were still pooled with sadness. He should've expected this, their lack of time to sit down and talk it through only adding to her anxieties, and he smiled reassuringly for her.
"I concluded I was wasting time denying my own feelings when I could have spent that time with you." He pulled her closer, his hold warm and comforting. "I apologize that our situation does not allow us to spend time together like this near often enough."
"It's not your fault, Dream." She huffed. "We're just in a really intense, stressful, dangerous situation." Laughter came from the kitchen amidst the other demons' loud chatter, and she almost smiled at the irony.
