I would like to apologize for what I'm going to put Dream thru but just know it's necessary - I never torture my characters for no reason - and it's what he gets for resisting character development (and no it's not my fault he's traumatized and refuses to accept Nighty's gone, why are you bringing up that I'm the author?)

"[Summoner.]" The voice was quiet, soft, like a lover sweetly trying to wake you, and (Y/n)'s blurry eyes opened slowly. It was still nighttime, the stars in the sky above her twinkling brightly, and she yawned as she sat up. Outer was asleep next to her, his arm around her waist loosening so she could shift away from him. She leaned down to place a sleepy kiss on his forehead before looking around.

"[What?]" She heard a soft mental chuckle from Dream.

"[I was not aware your adorable sleepy voice translated into thoughts as well.]" She could see his smirk-ish smile from the attic.

Her face warmed. "[Um, why did you wake me?]" She foolishly hoped he couldn't feel her embarrassment knowing full well he could lock onto and decipher her emotions from anywhere else in the house.

"[I was not sure where you were so I wanted to make sure you were alright.]" Leave it to her Guardian to always look out for her. Her heart warmed at the thought.

"[I was stargazing with Outer.]" She glanced down at Outer, squeezing his hand once before standing to let him sleep in peace, crawling back down the ladder to the master bedroom. "[What did I miss?]"

"[Error and Ink have ceased their rivalry for the moment.]"

"[They're still in one piece?]"

"[They are still in all 206 pieces, if that is what you mean?]" His confusion was adorable—or maybe she was just in a very loving mood right then. Outer's presence had a way of calming her racing mind and helping her take it easy just for the moment, like he himself took it one day at a time and it helped her do the same, and if someone like him could still look on the bright side then maybe she could harbor some optimism too. "[You enjoyed your time with Outer, then?]" She couldn't quite place what mood Dream was in, but the way he said it almost came off strained and uneasy.

"[Yeah. Everything alright?]" She stopped at the top of the stairs down to the living room to see Error and Ink going separate ways, Dream standing between them with a tired expression.

He glanced up at her with a small, forced smile. "[Why do you worry for me?]"

"[I'm always worried about you,]" she admitted, walking down the stairs towards him.

Something new shone in his eyelights momentarily before he shook it off. "[You need not worry, summoner.]" He put his hands behind his back, radiating pure positivity as he put on a smile.

"[Something's bothering you.]" Her gaze narrowed and he avoided it quickly.

"[You need not concern yourself with me or my feelings.]"

"[If you're back on your bullshit about not being allowed to feel any negative emotions...]" He stayed silent. "Dream." He slowly raised his gaze to hers. "What's bothering you?" She reached out to him and he stepped back, his smile faltering.

"It is nothing, summoner." His tone was firm, telling her not to pry, and despite how she knew to heed the warning, she couldn't bring herself to.

"I don't need you distracted, Dream." She stepped towards him again. "You know I'll listen to you-" He held up a hand, silencing her.
