Ink had his legs crossed as he held a piece of paper in his hand, doodling away as a music player sat up on the mantel over the fireplace playing some human tunes that he was bopping his head to. He was sat in the living room on the couch where he could hear the others talking in the kitchen about Error's plan. It was nearly done, and with everybody besides Ink, Swap, and (Y/n) helping, it was bound to be done any minute. But inspiration struck Ink after he found the music player and it perfectly supplemented his drawing, so he made himself scarce just like Error wanted—it wasn't like he wanted to help the glitchy demon anyways.
"Where did you get that?" The sudden shout caught his attention, and he perked up to see (Y/n) running down the stairs and over to the music player, harshly shutting it off and whirling to face Ink with an unreadable expression. Swap trailed behind her—he was sent to go retrieve her since Error's plan was nearly complete. Dream watched over her last night as always, but Error needed his expertise so he entrusted Swap to watch over her in the meantime.
"I found it...somewhere," Ink replied, scratching his jaw with the pencil in his hand. He couldn't remember exactly where it was.
(Y/n) sighed and ran a hand down her face. "It was put away specifically so it couldn't be used, Ink."
"But it works fine." He added some more lines to his drawing, clearly not taking the conversation all that seriously.
"Did you explore the house?" (Y/n) huffed, already knowing the answer as Ink grinned down at his art. "Well, just stay out of the master bedroom, alright?" Swap walked up beside her with his arms crossed, curiosity shining in his blue eyelights.
"Why?" Ink glanced up.
She avoided his gaze. "It's personal."
"Can you turn the player back on?" He returned his eyelights to his drawing as she shook her head. "It's just music, witch. You have something against creative mediums?" His tone sounded mocking, and (Y/n)'s gaze narrowed.
"Don't call me witch, Ink. And no, I'm not against creativity, I just don't like music anymore." She shifted uncomfortably at the topic and Swap frowned, but before he could make a comment, Ink laughed.
"That explains why your soul is so dull! Your passion's gone." He smiled wide like he finally figured her out as she flinched, putting a hand over her chest where her soul was.
Swap stepped up then. "Ink, be nice."
"I am. I'm just pointing out why her soul is that faded (S/c) color." His blunt, brash way of speaking only seemed to make (Y/n) shrink back into herself as Swap's frown deepened. "So what happened, witch?" Ink cocked his head to the side to study her curiously as he rested his jaw on his palm, his smile still present—almost like it was mocking her.
"Stop calling me that!" (Y/n) snapped, her arms tightly crossed across her body as if trying to provide a physical barrier between his words and her soul.
"She's told you multiple times now, Ink," Swap said authoritatively, but Ink sighed.
"I can't remember that." He waved his pencil in the air dismissively. "And she's avoiding the question, so what is it, (Y/n)? Why do you hate music so much?" (Y/n) glanced up towards the mantle where the player was set next to the 2 urns and her expression grew more uncomfortable. Ink followed her gaze and his eyelights lit up with exclamation marks. "I saw monster dust in the second one. Who was it?"
(Y/n) gaped as Swap snapped his gaze up in horror. "Ink!"
"Dance." (Y/n)'s voice barely broke the quiet, and both demons shifted their focus to her. She couldn't look at either of them, the unwanted memories resurfacing as she stared longingly at the urn and music player. "That was Dance's music player—Dad got it for him. We used to..." Her words trailed off, lost in a memory that saw her and Dance dancing around the living room as they listened to music. The thrill that came with passionate dancing with him made her soul come alive like nothing else could, and she swore the (S/c) glow in her chest became all the brighter while they danced the night away.
