Before (Y/n) could ask who Dream was talking about, Slash spoke up. "Are you ready to send us back?" Then his sockets widened. "Unless you still need time to recharge your magic, I don't want to rush you or anything!" He waved his hands in front of himself frantically, an embarrassed smile on his teeth as Dream chuckled at the young demon.
"Leaving without saying goodbye?" (Y/n) scoffed dramatically as she set her book on the ground, walking over to the youngest demon to pull him into a hug. "I hope after all our time together I would at least deserve a farewell." At her teasing, Slash let out a laugh and apologized as he wrapped his arms around her tightly.
Dream watched the two of them talk for a moment, amusement alight in his golden eyelights. He'd seen bits and pieces of this playful (Y/n)—the one that wasn't burdened by the past and her own possible death looming on the horizon—and he found he rather liked it. It wasn't anymore the real her than the traumatized version of her was, but to see the life back in her beautiful (e/c) eyes and the radiant light back in her (S/c) soul made his own soul sing. He wondered if this was the girl Dance fell in love with, and how proud Dance would be if he got to see her like this again. If there truly was an afterlife for demons, Dream would have to find Dance again to tell him all about what his strong warrior had been up to, and that Dance's sacrifice that night wasn't in vain.
(Y/n) stepped away from Slash and turned to Ink, who instantly yanked her into a hug with a loud laugh. "You know witch, I think you're alright for a human."
"And for a demon with a crap memory, you're not too annoying," she teased back, his 'witch' comment not bothering her this time.
He snorted, rolling his eyelights playfully. "I was the one who got your passion for life back. I deserve at least a little respect." He brandished a regular paintbrush and flicked it in the air, flinging paint at the music player on the mantle over the fireplace, beside which was a diamond-encrusted ring and black as midnight apple. The paint hit the play button and peppy hip-hop music played through the box as Ink brandished Broomie and swiped it over (Y/n)'s outfit, turning it to a solid gold dress to make it easier for her to dance. He swayed to the music and she joined him despite his downright goofy moves.
"You still can't dance." She snickered at his offended gasp, and he grabbed her hand, twirling her once before sending her careening into Swap, who caught her expertly. His blue eyelights flickered over her quickly to make sure she wasn't hurt before she pulled him into a dance across the living room floor, and he followed her easily, his teeth in a proud grin as he picked her up and spun her in the air. It reminded her of their first dance together when she caught Ink with the music player, and while initially she'd been against ever hearing music again, she was glad she'd decided to let Ink spark passion back into her life as Swap tried to dance with her. Swap's enthusiasm even now was unmatched, and after their hours of practice together, his moves almost reminded her of Dance's. But the thought wasn't bittersweet anymore, only comforting in a sad way.
As the song ended, Swap dipped her low, his eyelights sparkling as he panted lightly. "I'll miss having a dance partner," (Y/n) said as she smiled up at him. He let out a cocky 'Mweh heh heh' and pulled her upright, his arms loosely around her waist in a partial hug.
"If you ever wish to dance, I would not mind being summoned by you again, human!"
Her eyes widened at the offer before they softened. "Thanks Swap. I'd...actually like that. I'll try not to summon you too often-"
"I wouldn't mind visiting!" Slash piped up, his smile equally as excited as Swap's.
"The human world has some stellar inspiration," Ink commented, Broomie cradled in his arms as his eyelights shifted shapes and colors with every blink, unbridled creative potential in every little thing he saw.
