"In case you forgot, you're still bound to a soul contract with me, Error." (Y/n) tried to go for frosty but all she could manage was lukewarm. She wanted to be furious, feel her blood boil while she tore him a new one, but all she felt was sorrow. Their bond was nothing more than a facade, and to realize that made her entire perspective on him fall with it. He was the stereotypical demon she'd convinced herself none of them were, and to be reminded of their true nature only made her disappointed in herself. She should've known better than to trust a demon like him.
"And what do you plan to make me do, human?" Error asked sassily.
"All I want is the truth." The lack of fight in her eyes made Error's browbones furrow as he almost turned uncomfortable with her quiet pain. He was a demon so what did she honestly expect? Demons hated their summoners more than anybody, so why wouldn't he fool her into thinking they were friends when he likely only did it just so she wouldn't order him around when he was never on their side to begin with?
"I can't lie, human." Error rolled his eyelights. "So just spit it out."
"Whose side are you on?"
"My own." His words were firm and he met her gaze evenly.
"And what is your goal?" She knew she shouldn't, but she was clearly hoping for a particular answer.
He could tell, and he took a second to mull over his answer before opening his mouth. "To go home with the Boss and his minions so I stand a chance."
She wanted to believe him but she couldn't bring herself to. "[Is he telling the truth?]"
"[His emotions suggest he is being more genuine than usual. He is irritated with himself for being open with you, but you are making him feel guilty.]" Dream's gaze was scrutinizing on Error, and the perceptive Archdemon glared at him.
"I answered your stupid questions, now can we move on to figuring out a plan?" His gaze swept across the other demons, and G only rose a browbone as Silver frowned. Without waiting for an answer, Error opened a glitchy portal to the vault in (Y/n)'s house and walked through to grab an armful of books. (Y/n) felt his magic break through the barrier—at least the spell worked. G and Silver helped him bring all of her father's books to Waylon's condo and spread them around the kitchen table.
"What do you need the books for?" (Y/n) asked, slipping from Dream's hold to walk over to the table. G stood beside her with Silver on her right and Error across from her, and G blew smoke to the side as he stuck his hands in his jean pockets.
"I'm making sure Nightmare doesn't get his hands on them," Error said dismissively, looking through the titles for the ones he needed.
"Because Nightmare's planning on raiding my house for my father's books?" It would've sounded stupid if she didn't know Mrs. Waylon was looking to add more demons to her arsenal, and he didn't even glance up as he nodded. "Well I'm sure glad you switched sides so they have easy access to my entire house now."
His gaze finally rose from the books at her sarcasm, teeth grit. "The sooner we can take out your birthgiver, the sooner I get to go home with the others. Your books will be safe here." He said the last bit sarcastically with an exaggerated eyeroll, but it was still nice of him to specify for her—even if he was a dick about it.
"At least we agree Mom needs to die," (Y/n) grumbled.
"Jeez, talk about mommy issues," G muttered, pinching his cigarette between pointer and middle finger. It was a terrible joke but it made (Y/n) smile and he noticed, eyelights roaming up and down her body appreciatively as his teeth curved into a flirty smile. "I don't know how a crazy woman like that made a gorgeous girl like you."
