Hello, my child. Here's another non-canon bonus chapter just for funsies, so feel free to skip if you're not interested as it has no bearing on the actual plot. These bonuses tend to poke fun at myself, the story, the characters, and just generally break the 4th wall - which is intended to keep it separate from the actual canon plotline in your mind (hopefully). I like to be kind and give y'all stress-free content on occasion so this is it. So enjoy your time with Error while he dramatically deals with an existential crisis about his part in your story <3
When (Y/n) first summoned Error, all he could think was 'What fresh hell is this?'. What kind of merciless, cruel being would force him to not only have to do this again, but do it while being surrounded by the Boss' brother, that forgetful, insufferable, annoying squid, and Swap? Fate had been cruel to him before but never like this. Why did he have to be stuck with the Star Sanses? Somehow he felt like he already knew: that it was some joke from a being of fate that wanted to see him suffer, and that only on that joke premise was an actual canon explanation formed, and thus he was put into this story under the guise of it being more than a hilarity.
Or maybe he was just being dramatic. After all, Ink's very existence pushed him to hate living, so being summoned into a house where he was in close quarters with the demon he hated the most just brought the sarcastic theatrics out of him. At least for once he was being left alone to work. With the previous plan going about as poorly as it could—not because of him, of course, but the Stars—he was working on a new plan, and with any luck, it being completed meant he could go home. But somehow he knew the fateful being wasn't going to be that generous, and that dealing with Waylon and his demons wouldn't be that cut-and-dry. He just hoped they'd be merciful enough to not have Nightmare jump to conclusions about Error's involvement with the enemy.
He almost laughed at that. Who was he kidding? His entire role in this story was because of a sick joke, of course Nightmare was going to murder him once he found out. Error sighed loudly, resting his skull in his hands. Part of him almost wanted to laugh along with this being of fate—it was rather ironic to put him in the mix with the Star Sanses when they were on opposing sides in the demon world—but since it was happening to him and not someone else, he didn't. But there had to be more than just plot requirements that made the fateful being choose him, so he ran through the reasons again: he was the best strategist in canon (which they needed), his dynamic with the Stars and Ink in particular was amusing for everyone but him, he had a personal reason to help free Nightmare and the others even if he hadn't learned to openly care about them in this Alternate Timeline, he liked feeling smart and getting praise (which Dream and (Y/n) in particular were providing), it was a break from the stresses back home (this was stressful, sure, but in a different way and not as extreme), and there was chocolate here. He had reasons to stay, sure, but they almost felt contrived.
"Are you alright?" (Y/n)'s voice made Error lift his head from his hands to glare at her. She paused in the doorway at the look. Then there was (Y/n). She looked just like the Boss' lover back home—even her name was exactly the same—so part of him already felt attached to her despite that making no logical sense. But he had an uncharacteristic soft spot for her almost immediately upon meeting her that could only be explained as illogical—like it was thrown in as some kinda nod to him having past experience with (Y/n), but quickly canonically explained as him just seeing parts of himself in her. Error loved himself, to be fair, so seeing someone else in the midst of the Stars also be rather pessimistic and willing to kill was refreshing. In a way, she'd already become his lifeline among the sea of stupidly positive, good demons. Well, 'lifeline' was rather dramatic, but having someone else around with common sense and their feet on the ground was necessary for him to not lose more of his mind.
