In the mystical forest,

intelligence blooms like night flowers in the eyes of the wise wolves.

"Am I going to be held in here like a prisoner?"

The words just stumbled out of my mouth without me filtering them through my mind and I saw Kaven's surprised expression in front of me blinking and buffering.

"Where'd that come from?" He asked now confusion settling in in his face. He put his phone on the table turning toward me. "You're not a prisoner, River."
His reaction made me feel regret but I couldn't help it. This was like back in Parksville.

"I'm not going to be able to walk outside until you've found a solution?" I reminded him, my voice a bare cry. The conversation we had a couple of hours ago, before my family and his family went to bed. "How long?"

"River," he mumbled, his tone painfully soft. "This is a safety precaution. I'm not trying to torture you."
"I know that," I added frustratedly, remembering the feeling I had about something being kept hidden. "What is it that you can't tell me?"
"What do you mean?"
"I know there's something. Please tell me."
"There's nothing to worry about."

But there was.

My eyes impatiently rambled across the room. „Kaven, please."

In that silent moment he met my gaze. Still hesitating. Then, he wheezed loudly. "Okay."

I looked at him baffled. I didn't expect that to happen.

„Anakin smelled their scent around the bay at Vancouver ferry terminal. Usually they don't come to the city, especially not crowded ones like Vancouver." He paused, as if he waited for the information to sink in. "They're still after the necklace. Or in other words, after the one who can yield its' power."
"Well, they can have this little shit then. If that causes so much drama to our lives I don't want it," I said annoyed.
"River," he replied in a muffled tone, controlling himself. "They're after you. You are the yielder."

What?

I kept still.

"The day you and grandma were home alone and the shuck suddenly ran out of the window yelping?" He reminded me. "The day you and your family were under attack on the yacht and somehow your family got away alive while being held at gun point before?"
My jaw dropped. I stared at him asking myself how he knew about that and then he added casually: "I read the witness statements."
A short silence got between us when he grabbed me by my shoulders. "That was all you."
"What do they want from me?" I asked, feeling fed up but he just shook his head while his grey-green eyes looked down on me. Searching for a spark of sanity.
"I don't know," he mumbled. „Yet."

Did he really not know or was he hiding it?

"A- Anakin?" I stated, avoiding eye contact and I didn't know where that name came from but I ran with it. He was hiding something anyway.
"What about him?" he asked.
"Does he know?"

Kavens features hardened. He went silent, so silent that it became uncomfortable. Almost scary. I felt the temperature around us drop by ten degrees instantly.

Then his brows furrowed in skepticism and his voice became cold as ice. "What did he tell you?"
Being so intimidated that I hesitated for a second, I realized I had toggled myself into some sort of staining shit. But I was done with it.
