Discipline, a silent hymn,

orchestrates the ballet of survival in the enchanted wilderness.

I don't know what time it was when I woke up but the sun was just shining through the floor to ceiling windows and tickled me awake.

The blinds had ordered themselves back up to the ceiling shaft and what remained were the sparkles and white brightness of the upcoming day.
Next to me, a wide rib cage messily and half way covered with the silk black duvet was rising and falling slowly. The same rib cage that held the heart of the man I loved inside of it and kept it safe.
I slowly blinked enjoying every millisecond of this moment. The warmth he radiated, the familiar scent I buried myself into and the calmness of being so up in the sky that the only thing audible was either our breaths or the beats of our hearts.

I couldn't imagine a more beautiful morning to wake up in.
I stayed in bed with Kaven, because he still recovered from the assault and took longer to get up.

And I didn't mind not doing anything but lying next to him.
I could sense that he still felt little weak hence the long sleep periods.

Staggering walks to the bathroom or longer pauses in between meals had their reasons.
Preparing breakfast would be something I should do, but he had his arm wrapped around my neck pressing me to his side so if I tried to move in the slightest way he'd wake up and loose precious sleeping time that he could've used for healing. Therefore I didn't risk it.

We were boyfriend girlfriend after all. Well, at least he had stated that he wanted to be.

I wish I had been able to make myself more useful that day. Kaven had taken all of the shucks by himself and I just hid behind some bushes and hedges doing nothing. To be fair with myself, I had tried to be useful by controlling the crystal but I had failed so there I was returning to zero with my effectiveness.

I looked down on myself.

The necklace laid on the fabric of my white shirt - the chain twirled around it. It was cold to the touch which reminded me of the fact that I was indeed safe.

We were safe.

Kaven's red eyes were still scary when I remembered them but seeing him so innocently and angelically sleep next to me made me wonder if that day had been a dream and if I had just imagined things. I knew they were real and they had actually happened but this moment let me forget about it all. Made me not care.

I could watch him all day now.
His beard stubble that slightly appeared on his face, his dark lashes that framed his eyelids, his dark hair that shimmered navy bluish in the sunlight that shone through. A left hand he had placed on his chest showing the veins under the olive skin.

What being washed away from a yacht and stranding at a foreign shore miles away had brought me.
Like a cat I silently and as slowly as possible tried to escape his tight grip to get out of this football field of a bed. The sheets rustled under my weight almost revealing that I was escaping before I could step on the cool marble floor beneath it.
Stalking to the door I left Kaven to sleep and went to the kitchen to prepare his breakfast so he could take his medicine in time.

The hot pan with the oil was sizzling on the stove on high heat. I had prepared tea and the tray to take back to Kaven's room.

The eggs had been beaten and cooked by me. Yoghurt was in its small bowl with berries and I even found olives and cream cheese in the fridge and the nice and toasty smell of fresh bread was already filling the air.

He surely had no appetite whatsoever but there was no way I wouldn't try to force him to eat.

He had already lost a little weight. Or maybe I just imagined this.

Regardless of anything: I had to ensure he'd get the proper amount of calories.

As I was aggressively whisking the pancake batter in my arms I heard a cellphone ring with rhythmic vibrations. I checked the display of the phone lying on the coffee table and it was Anakin who was calling Kaven and I picked up.
"Hey, Anakin."
„You're even answering his phone calls now, I like that."
"Well, if you were here, you could've done that," I joked.
"Nah, then there wouldn't be anybody who called."
"As if he doesn't have any friends?"
"Those flakes haven't come forward yet, have they?"
I didn't know who he was referring to so I pondered. There was Caleb I remembered and Emily - the bitch.
As well as the others whose names I couldn't remember right now.
"Who are you talking about?" I asked.
"Caleb," he replied. "I heard he's moved to Vancouver just recently. Has he called yet?"
"Not that I know of."
A small pause.
„Apparently Nathan has told him that Kaven's been in the hospital," he added a slight annoyance resounding in his voice. "Can you please let Kaven know that?"
I frowned. "I can, but why?"
"He'll explain it to you."

Will he actually?

"Okay," I replied. "Do you want him to call you back?"
"Yeah, please. Even though I'm sure he's in good hands who take care of him."
"You little kiss-up," I grinned. "Wait until I tell him, that you didn't want to take over this duty."
"Objection. He was the one who suggested it."
"Right."

"Who are you talking to?"
Kaven was standing in the doorway of the kitchen and had a sleepy expression on his face. His hair needed my brush.
"Your little brother Kin."
"What's he saying?" he asked coming to the isle staring at the omelette I had cooked for him and ripping off a piece to throw it in his mouth.
I put him on speaker. "Tell him Anakin, he can hear you."
"Kaven, Caleb is in Vancouver," he said and his older brother furrowed his brows.
„Really." His sarcasm almost made me laugh.
"I guess he wants to talk."
Kaven just nodded focused on the food in front of him.
"Keep River away from him," Anakin added sounding extremely serious.
"Sure thing."
"Don't let him smell her."
Kaven's eyes collided with mine over the phone I held between us.
"Certainly not."
