Under the moon's silver gaze, dreams drift like autumn leaves,

carried by the gentle breeze of possibility.

Before I could open my mouth I was being vigorously hurled onto the damp meadows behind Kaven. I landed on my stomach, the impact shaking me from the inside out. This blunt force exploded in my muscles. My bruised skin around my elbow burned and for a second I had forgotten how to breath. The slam against the hard ground had pressed the last breath of air out of me.

The person in charge: my boyfriend.

I panted and groaned until I was able to brace myself up onto my cubits when the realization came in like a bang. I witnessed Kaven turn into his cruel beast form and attack multiple shucks at once, when I remembered the crystal.

It was still burning.

Oh my god.

"KAVEN!"

Desperately I grabbed the end of my necklace into my fist. I was going to die out of worry. This thing had to help or we would be in grave danger. There were six of them only only two of us.

And every single one of them was drooling in murder lust.

The sound of breaking bones and ripping flesh sent a cold shiver down my spine, contracting my chest.

Hard ripping splashes of blood whipped the asphalt, making me flinch every single time. Not that I was worried about those shucks dying - it was more a concern I had for Kaven. The shucks were so aggressive and persistent that this scene in front of my eyes could change any second. And that almost made my heart stop.

With quick and calculated landings, fierce offenses and steel defenses they worked as a team against their enemy.

The shucks worked as a well-established team.

Unlike Kaven. He let out a warning growl, snapping at any shuck who tried to pass him to get to me.

Because he was fighting alone.

I didn't know what to do. My heart started banging in my chest and this agonizing desperation made me go stiff involuntarily. The only thing I could feel right now was the excruciating pain of the heat in my palm like I was holding on to a red hot piece of iron, fresh from the foundry.

Kaven hadn't transformed into this horrifyingly hideous monster that I had seen when we were at the restaurant a while back.

He kept his normal navy wolf appearance which made me wonder why and also feel angry with him. The lights of the street lamps let him shimmer in a bluish tint and I waited and waited for it to change but it didn't.

Why wouldn't he transform into that more powerful version of himself?

The shucks turned impatient and started to attack once again. Jarring yelping and howling pierced the cold night air of the district of my home town, when it suddenly clicked in my mind.

They had found out where I lived.

Fuck.

Having no time to worry about that fact I hid behind a tree to focus on this stupid piece of gem in my hand. To make it go crazy and banish these monsters from here.

The sharp edges painfully dug into my palm as I clenched my fists and I screwed up my eyes internally praying, visualizing, affirming in hopes that I would hear these shucks cry and scatter in all directions. I tried to stabilize my breath and focused on the ruby. It still burned like hell and the yelps from the distant fight wouldn't help either, because I didn't know if it was Kaven who was hurting.

I had to hurry up. But this persistent panic just wrenched me, and my pounding heart was almost giving up it's service. I heard it bang in my ears before the next loud scream penetrated the chilly air. I jerked out of my half trance and saw Kaven on the ground surrounded by these disgusting monsters, scouring around him full of reserved anticipation. Gnarling and howling.

Kaven...

Kaven!

My mind went completely blank. What I did next was something Kaven would scold me for but I did it anyway - not thinking about any consequences for a single second. My debilitated legs began sprinting and all I could think about was screaming. Everything had seemed to slow down until I lost my hearing. That was when time stopped.

I had run over the meadows, not feeling my sore muscles aching or the burn in my lungs. Not even the fact my heart failing would stop me.

My feet thundered over the paved road as I ate up the distance between Kaven and me. The shucks had already gotten in formation, the fur on their necks standing up high to the dark, starry sky.

And I closed my eyes, tears shooting underneath my lids, as I hoped my legs wouldn't give up on me.

The last thing I felt was my unchecked impact against Kaven's back, feeling his warm fluffy fur and the heat in my palm, the crystal now torching me.

I prayed.

I prayed that Kaven was okay. That I weren't too late. That this was not the end.

Every breath I drew in felt like I was being etched from the inside out so I burrowed my face in the navy fur to ease the pain. My entire body was shaking and I smelled the shuck's foul disturbing odor.

Which meant they were close. Too close.

But I had no intention on frightened. I was next to Kaven and he was next to me.

The darkness behind my eyes turned bright. Like a flashlight held directly in my face.

I was blinded.

Were we in the light cone of a vehicle?

I can't hear any engine roaring...

I snuggled back into the thick fur to lock out the migraine-inducing luminosity.

Everything had turned completely dazzling white and before I could speculate what it was... I passed out.
