I watched as he walked along the secluded streets. It's almost as if paranoia caught the best of him like he knew I was waiting.
Jeremiah Concord is a man of no good deeds and a villain to most women. He'd ripped off too many people to count and got away with ruining hundreds of lives, including mine. But with an anonymous tip on an ongoing deal he held, I caught the prey in the hands of the predator.
It was almost fun watching him walk around like a lost boy. Hope explained that the more anxious they are the more satisfying the kill, it's fucked I know. But it's almost as if we were grown from the same tree but different branches.
He turns back quickly almost as if he were to catch me looking from behind. But as he makes it to his designated meeting spot with not a person in place, I let it set in.
"Able?!" He yells the name of a man that was part of his fallen deal. I slowly crept down the building scaling the sides and as my feet hit the ground I kept quiet as I remained behind him.
A rattling noise lingers in the distance and as he steps forward I lift the blade from my shoe. I align the dagger precisely and then without a second thought, I let it fly. It moves swiftly the air circling and just my luck, it lands right into his back.
I hear him gasp for air as the shock of the knife hits him. I walk towards him as he stumbles on his feet. He attempts to grab the knife but fails with his proximity.
The man I'd hunted for, scouted cities and countries for. The man who took her from me like she was just collateral. He killed my best friend and drove away.
He screwed with people, took their money, and drained them dry. Yet he stood on his feet walking freely. Hitting my best friend and leaving her to die in a fleeing rush.
"Ouch" The words leave my mouth as he freezes, I circle in front of him and examine his face pales, "That looks like it hurts, like a backstab would? Looks like I'm a backstabber" His eyes trailed me as I walked, fear was shown in them as I stood.
"What do you want" His voice grew hoarse as he was shaking. I stepped behind him to see the knife plunged deep into his back. I knew his legs would give in seconds.
I reached for the red-rimmed knife and pulled it out as he groaned, "Fuck! Why the fuck would you do that!?" His eyes grew fiery as he stared at me, a woman hidden behind a mask.
"Abigail Abrams" The words leave my mouth, nothing changes in his face but confusion. My stomach grows even more sour, he doesn't even remember the girl he killed. The girl whose name haunted him in courtrooms and filled his lawyer's bank account.
"Who?" It had been six years and he'd forgotten her. I couldn't fathom how, how he could just walk away as her body grew cold on the side of the road.
"My best friend, you killed her on the 22nd of June, her last day of eighth grade. She was walking across the street and you ran her over and drove away. You killed her and didn't care" I felt a coldness grow in my veins.
Silence.
Not a word from his lips as the realization hit him, he killed the ray of sunshine in my life. The lights went out and I was left in darkness, the people who I've solely loved most had been taken from me.
