Lunden Evergreen
I was now officially bored.
It's day five of break and tomorrow is Christmas Eve. It felt weird being on an empty campus, not a soul in sight. The only people who remained were the janitorial staff and a few students. I'd kept a schedule, I'd work out, practice, and then find myself on a mission.
I tried to not be as active as I usually was, especially with the feds down my back apparently. But Hope had taught me a lot these past few weeks. I wouldn't see her over break though, she had to go to her beach home for the Holidays. Her husband was still more reserved, but I get why he wouldn't trust me.
She'd been training me with knives and how to use them to my advantage. Never bring a knife to a gunfight they say. But nobody's ever been in a knife fight with The Angel of Death.
Being stuck on campus was odd though, I chose to be here and I was even debating going home to Mom for the holidays. But I knew Christmas would be worse with me there. I was the black sheep of my family, the one who hid in back rooms during parties and only came out for dinner.
The only good part I had going for me was getting Eleanor's car for the break. Her family went to her grandparents in Colorado for break which left her car here with me. I was right next to Boston, practically in the city so it wasn't like there was nothing to do. But I still found myself just watching movies in my dorm.
So today I decided I would head into the city, to do what you may ask? I have no idea. But isn't that the fun in being mysterious... the activities find you? It was also probably a horrible choice being December 23rd but yet here I was making it.
Stepping into the driver's side I buckle my seat. Turning the key into the ignition I situated myself quickly. As the heat blew the window began to fog up, this sucked. I connected to the Bluetooth and began to play my Christmas jams.
Now they were definitely a choice. The sound of Charlie Brown's Christmas music floods my ears as I drive through the empty campus. I was driving at my speed, which was like a grandma. I was a terrible driver and on a campus, it was better to play it safe.
As I focused on the road a beep comes behind me and I turn to see some dick tailgating me. I blast my music louder and drive even slower than before. Don't be a dick or I'll ruin your driving experience and that's a promise.
And like the maniac I am I begin slightly moving the car to the beat of the music. The lanes extend and merge into two and now I begin to go fast. Because the person behind me moved quickly into the other lane, I wasn't prepared to be given the bird or the side eye.
I was just trying to enjoy my music. But of course, the dude speeds up beside me as he beeps and when I look over direct eye contact is made. Atlas stared at me through the window as if I was some type of psycho. Without a second thought, my eyes move back to the road and I begin to try and get away from him.
I learned I had a tendency to embarrass myself in front of the man. It wasn't purposeful it just kept happening. I continued my drive and found myself driving across Commonwealth Ave I found street parking and for the first time, I didn't fuck up parallel parking.
I make my way to the sidewalk and look across the park to see Newbury Street. I would be treating myself today, to one little Christmas gift.
